Aquaculture is rapidly increasing to meet protein demands of a growing population and preferences of consumers with rising living standards. Alongside selective breeding and improved production methods, transgenic fish may be one option for meeting these demands.
This third text in the series presents scientific methodologies, combined with stakeholder deliberation, for assessing and managing ecological risks of transgenic fish. The science needed to inform environmental biosafety policy and regulation for transgenic animals in aquaculture, particularly in developing countries, is also addressed.
