The Evolution of Gods: The Scientific Origin of Divinity And Religions (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.213

Is there really a God out there, or is it something that human created so we could have something or someone to fear in cases where we go wrong? This book asserts the it is the highly imaginative human mind that invented God using scientific research.

Summary of the Book

For most people it is blind faith in a God that they believe existed, and for some there is doubt as to how this whole concept came about. This book takes you back to the era that was about 400,000 to 200,000 years ago when man and woman just came to existence. About 100,000 years ago, humans discovered language as a form of communication. This helped them analyse and think about the world around them. It makes sense that the things that they feared the most were what they would eventually worship. For example: they feared the cold, so they turned to the sun for help and in turn started to worship it. They felt threatened by thunder and lightening, so they worship the sky. Several years ago diseases came into being which brought about another God that served that purpose.
This book sets apart religion and science. It tells us that there is a scientific reason for the creation of every God that is worshipped, and that it is the work of the humans themselves.

About the Author

Ajay Kansal is a professor and consultant in Clinical Pathology. He studied anthropology and history of religions to understand the human tendency of following religions as he thought that Gods and religion were not doing their part in helping humanity. He then decided to share his knowledge with the world.

The knowledge that changed my convictions.

I rarely write a review, even then I am writing, since I absolutely loved this book. I am surprised to read the contents, which are altogether new. This book has compiled several religious practices prevalent during the prehistoric and historic time. After reading those, a clear cut picture appears how and why humans would have created or imagined their gods. Humans imagined and worshipped the divine powers or gods in order to explain their mysteries and miseries. Humans imagined and worshipped the divine powers or gods in order to explain their mysteries and miseries. The author has established that religions caused and nourished the most common human miseries like women exploitation, poverty, slavery, Tantar-Mantra and several diseases.
I have been a devotee, but certainly have problems with several aspects of religions. This wonderful book has explained almost all my previous questions and specially the impact of the concept of gods on humans today. This book has shattered my faith. It is a painful experience to know that all religious dogmas and gods are an illusion. Now, I do not have an imaginary savior to protect me. Yes, if my savior was my imagination or illusion then this book have done a great job to open my eyes. In the long run this may help me, since I would now believe myself only.

A disappointing Hypothesis of the pathology of time and belief

When I got this book i was so underwhelmed it took me a weak week to read the whole thing and felt that its some creative writing that seems to reek of disappointment. Too much importance has been piled on about how illiterate our ancestors were with their superstitions, Vishnu and Shiva have been sidelined for Indra. The stories of the Vedas and Upanishads which contain a hidden knowledge meant for those whose eyes have been opened by a master has been dispatched to the realm of bedtime tales told by our ancestors to huddled children. No where have their been revelations of how advanced our ancestors knew Precession and Astromomy, the use of sound waves and the unexplainable mysteries of the past of the advancements in understanding the Multiverse understood by ancients. This makes our ancestors look like a bunch of hairy retards, makes you really wonder how we could have achieved anything in this day an age. If you want to explain away the system of Belief, put up more than Darwinian speculation with a hint of malice in the belief system of consciousness. The title should read as A Hypothesis of the Origin of Divinity and Religions according to the Author, as the scientific origins would be highly debatable.

God - Reality or Myth?

WHAT I FELT ABOUT THE BOOK?
Content ??? Interesting. Extensive research has gone into the making of this book. The author takes us on a journey of the various civilizations and religions of the world and tries to give us an insight into the evolution of God and the various religions the world is flooded with today. The Author also deals with some interesting topics like ???Life after death,??? ???Sacrifice: Bribing the Gods,??? ???Gods and Demons of Diseases,??? apart from dealing with Hinduism, Judaism and Christianity in detail. The portions on rituals practiced by people over centuries,...

The Author also deals with some interesting topics like ???Life after death,??? ???Sacrifice: Bribing the Gods,??? ???Gods and Demons of Diseases,??? apart from dealing with Hinduism, Judaism and Christianity in detail. The portions on rituals practiced by people over centuries, witchcraft and primitive medical practices make interesting read.

However what intrigues me is that apart for a passing mention at three or four places, the Author has not touched upon Islam which too is a major religion. Even when speaking about the practice of fasting by the believers, the author fails to mention ???roza??? or month long fasting undertaken by Muslims the world over.

The Author has made a serious attempt to answer various questions regarding religion and God plaguing the Human mind. How successful he is in satiating the thirst of the reader depends upon the person concerned. Frankly speaking, I found many explanations put forth by Dr. Kansal as hypothetical. But one question put forth by Dr. Kansal is I must admit, food for thought, ???Why does god wait for the next birth to convict his self- created puppets (men)? Are Gods not capable of punishing them in their present birth? Ideally their acts must be followed by divine punishments or rewards immediately.???

Has the book done full justice to its tagline ???The Scientific Origin of Divinity and Religion???? The book I must say, focuses more on archaeological and literary evidence. Hence for me the book is a little low on explaining the origin of divinity and religion from the scientific point of view and maybe that is the reason why I find many of the arguments put forth by Dr. Kansal as hypothetical.

Though bibliography is provided at the end, there are no links to notes and citations. These would have been easy for cross reference.

Language and Flow ??? Simple, easy to understand. However a bit too lengthy on account of unnecessary repetition of certain parts in chapter after chapter. This has affected the flow of the book to a certain extent.

Message ??? The book made me realize that the existence of God is still shrouded in mystery. For the believer, God is an unseen power while for the atheist, God is just a figment of the human mind.

MY RECOMMENDATION

Pick up the book only when you are ready for some ???serious read ??? and read it with an open mind..

WINDING UP

True to his observation that ???Mankind always had an instinct to explore the mysteries around,??? Dr. Ajay Kansal has made a serious attempt to explore the mystery surrounding Gods. But has the book impacted my belief in God? No, but it definitely has me pondering about certain beliefs, certain practices.

A perspective changing, splendidly written book that answers questions on the existence of God...

A beautiful and a sincere effort to utilize Science to explain the why, how and when of the evolution of life and the subsequent evolution of the God phenomenon. A fascinating read from a very promising author. Its written to the point and greatly adds to our understanding and knowledge of the origin of life, religion and evolution of Gods. I have always believed that there is a God and that everything that happens is part of a bigger plan known and devised by him. A fascinating read from a very promising author. Its written to the point and greatly adds to our understanding and knowledge of the origin of life, religion and evolution of Gods. I have always believed that there is a God and that everything that happens is part of a bigger plan known and devised by him. But The Evolution of Gods, without preaching against the existence of God, has made me question if all my beliefs are true or just made up tales to inspire fear and reverence to something greater than us!!
But apart from creating queries, it is also successful in satisfying our curiosities and answering our questions without being boring and stilted. Thus, making it a very promising book with a fresh perspective to our origin history, our morals, beliefs, faith in God etc. It states hard facts without compelling the reader to take sides. Leaving him enough freedom to come to his own conclusions.
I give The Evolution of Gods a 4 out of 5 and recommend everyone to read it.

Pure Facts? I doubt it.

First of all it's an okay book. Now I am no religious type at all, but as a keen seeker of knowledge from both side, I constantly read the books of both side. Now, here author AJAY KANSAL tried to prove that "God doesn't exists."

First of all what he did is asked a simple question, "Have you ever wondered why there is so many religion, but only one Science?". This very question is worth making you ask, "Seriously why?" After that he dwells into the history of human civilization showing how humans created their said Gods.

Now there's a catch here. Author crit...

First of all what he did is asked a simple question, "Have you ever wondered why there is so many religion, but only one Science?". This very question is worth making you ask, "Seriously why?" After that he dwells into the history of human civilization showing how humans created their said Gods.

Now there's a catch here. Author criticized and explains how Hinduism, Christianity and Judaism came into being but didn't have had the guts to say anything against Islam. Yup, he got chicken when it comes to shedding light on Islam.

Moreover he excepts that people like Buddha, Jesus and Muhammad were real, but didn't except that Krishna was too. He gave outdated facts in that regard, and if only he would've given the updated facts, by the study of 1987 and latest 2010, he wouldn't have just called him a myth. Moreover, he couldn't explain how the legends of a non-existent being became so popular that people started worshiping him.

Also he says that Buddha mediated for months without food and water, but couldn't justify it. On more occasion he merely based things on hypothesis.

In a way he, like every other atheist wrote this book in the arrogant manner, trying to justify how only Science is true, which I guess he forgot that is a creation of humans only. Moreover, with that quote I mentioned above, it also feels as if the guy doesn't know that there are various fields of Science as well, not just one.
