Fahrenheit 451 (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs. 268

Internationally acclaimed with more than 5 million copies in print, Fahrenheit 451 is Ray Bradbury's classic novel of censorship and defiance, as resonant today as it was when it was first published nearly 50 years ago.

Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires...

The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning ... along with the houses in which they were hidden.

Guy Montag enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for ten years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames... never questioned anything until he met a seventeen-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid.

Then he met a professor who told him of a future in which people could think... and Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do!

First to review

Beautifully written.

When it comes to dystopian fiction, I will say I still prefer 1984 by George Orwell, but this is a review for this book.

Its not a very extensive book, an average reader could probably wrap it up in a few hours.

For me the best part in this book was when the author spoke about the importance and beauty of books. I have never read more beautiful words that describe what power words and imagination have.

The author at the time was pretty taken by what the TV will turn the world into. In the book the people behind the screen become 'family'. Its a chilling tale of a possibl

A great book from a great mind...

Ray Bradbury's short stories are some of the best I have ever read. They are creepy but are a great way to look into the evolution of the classical american short story form that has revolutionised literature as we know it today. It took me a while to get around to reading it but I finally gave Farenheit 451 a shot and by the time I completed it I was glad I had done so.
The bleak and dystopian future painted by Bradbury is evocative of a creative mind bemoaning the loss of originality all around it, from the advent of the television to the excessive viewing of daily soap operas, to the dul

Wonderful

One of the best dystopian novels of all time. As you flip through the pages, you will realise that Mr. Bradbury was prescient , and many of the gadgets he has described have come into existence in the 21st Century. Apart from the gadgets, what is really scary is that some of the situations that he has described are not very far from today's reality ....

The Book Quality is Bad

When I say quality, I don't mean the contents of the book. The page quality and the overall build is less than satisfying. I brought Brave New World for the same price (appropriately) which was published by Vintage and it had a decent quality.

I haven't read the book yet but I'm hopeful that it will be good.

My "lesser rating" is devoted to the low quality of this print.

Book Review

Not really satisfied. The paper quality did not meet expectations.I think in the details even that should have been mentioned. One tends to think that there might be a few misprints as well (though there might not be one) but the feel of the paper might make somebody feel so.
