Book Summary of Fast Food Nation

Eric Schlosser has visited the state of the art labs where scientists recreate the flavours and smells of everything from cooked chicken to fresh strawberries in the test tube and he has spoken to workers at meatpacking plants with some of the worstsafety records in the world. He explores the links between Hollywood and the fast food trade, and the tactics used to target ever younger consumers. In a meticulously researched and powerfully argued account, Fast Food Nation reveals the full price of our appetite for instant gratification

Fast Food Nation

An awesome book! A must read for every parent. The books covers the origin of the American Fast Food industry and how brings out how it targets the susceptible young audience with its unhealthy offerings. The book also covers the unethical employment practices used by many of these fast food restaurant chains. Specifically, the part on the quality of raw material used and preparation process employed, is an eye-opener. Every teenager must be exposed to this book so that they know what they are getting into when they make the choice of their next fast food eat-out. Fast food is the industry blamed for rising obesity across the world and the only way we can safeguard the physical and mental well being of our next generation is by being more aware of the dangers being faced by them. This is the first step in that regard. I whole heartedly recommend that everyone reading should read out this book to their children.

Great Book .. do not miss ...

This book is an eye opener for all young people like me who are moderately or heavily addicted to McDonalds/KFC and the like.

The author has described the various practices these companies follow in order to mass produce food that we eat. What I liked the best is his analysis about the damage these companies and the fast food trend is causing to the local cuisines and food culture in general.

An eye opener!

A must read for everyone. Even though its a decade old, the insight into the capitalistic world of the fast food industry will make everyone ponder the next time they have a burger and french fries about what lies behind these popular takeouts. Great writing, good research that ends with possible courses that can be taken to mitigate the issues detailed in the book.
