*Another America
Review by Alan Duckworth
This is another America, the America you don't see in the films, or on the TV, or read about in the press. This is the real America, the America that starts when the camera stops rolling, and these are the real Americans, the original Americans, the Tejanos, the ones that that 'true American' John Wayne turns to for advice.
Gloria Alcozer Thomas introduces us to them and their way of life. Her writing style is deceptivley simple, but such eloquence is not achieved without years of hard work. She might be at your side, chatting pointing out what's significant. Her good humour never fails her. Neither poverty, nor racial abuse, neither illness, nor death itself diminishes her. Indeed she sees through death's posturings to the world of the spirit.
Gloria Alcozer Thomas is a fine travel writer, but she's much more than that. She has a message for the world - only love and self-sacrifice can save us, and by her own example she leads the way. Read this book and be entertained, be informed, be enlightened, but above all be inspired
