The Feynman Lectures On Physics: Mainly Mechanics, Radiation, And Heat (Volume-1) provides the readers with key insights into the fundamentals of physics.
Summary Of The Book
The Feynman Lectures On Physics: Mainly Mechanics, Radiation, And Heat (Volume-1) contains an exhaustive collection of some of the most important physics concepts. This book was written from the lectures given by Feynman over the period of a two-year physics course at the California Institute of Technology. This course was started with the intention of quenching the thirst of mathematically inclined students.
In total, there are 52 chapters in this book. Some of them include The Brownian Movement, The Laws of Thermodynamics, Sound: The Wave Equation, Applications of Kinetic Theory, and The Theory of Gravitation. Through the course of this book, the authors deal with the very basics of Physics, which range from Newton’s theory to advanced topics such as quantum mechanics and general relativity.
This book came into being due to experimentation by Feynman, who recounts that luckily his experiment turned out to be a great success. The Feynman Lectures On Physics are now regarded as the foundation stone for those who want to gain a sound understanding of Physics concepts. The lessons present in this volume are based on Feynman’s lectures that have been transcribed during his time at Caltech. The writing style of Feynman is clear and concise, which helps the readers get a hold of the concepts easily. The Feynman Lectures On Physics: Mainly Mechanics, Radiation, And Heat (Volume-1) is not meant only for students, but for anyone who desires to dig deeper into the world of Physics.
About The Authors
Richard P. Feynman was a physicist, author, and educator.
Feynman wrote Theory of Fundamental Processes, The Character of Physical Law, and Feynman’s Lost Lecture: The Motion of Planets Around the Sun.
Feynman was born on 11th May, 1918, in New York City. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Later that year, Feynman was made a Putnam Fellow at the institute. He went on to finish his doctoral degree from Princeton University in 1942. Feynman was presented with the Nobel Prize in Physics for his immense contributions to the world of Physics. Feynman passed away on 15th February, 1988, in Los Angeles, California.
Matthew Sands is an author, educator, and physicist.
Sands has also written Six Easy Pieces: Essentials of Physics Explained By Its Most Brilliant Teacher.
Sands was born on 20th October, 1920, in Oxford, Massachusetts. He completed his undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Physics from Clark University, after which he obtained an M.A. in Physics from Rice University. He has worked at a number of educational institutions, which include the University of California, Santa Cruz, California Institute of Technology, and MIT.
Robert B. Leighton was a physicist, and author.
Leighton completed his undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees from Caltech. He worked at different positions at Caltech, retiring from there as the William L. Valentine Emeritus Professor of Physics. He passed away on 9th March, 1997.
