Fifty Years Of Nursing

Through the 50 years of my nursing career there were many new innovations in the field of medicine, nursing practice and equipment. This story will discuss these changes and include the various facilities where I worked: there were three hospitals in New England and, following a major move to Florida, four others. Experiences from nurses training, early employment and transition to new and improved skills are explained. The requirement for continuing education caused a group of nurses to develop an education program available to all nurses in our locale. In the 80s I helped plan and get approval for a licensed practical nursing school in Desoto County, Florida. My marriage of 56 years and five healthy children gave me much satisfaction. After retirement, I did some traveling, and ultimately I took care of my terminally ill mother and husband at home. This brought my nursing skills full circle.
