First Course In Heat Transfer

The book is an introductory text on Heat Transfer, a subject in B.E./B.Tech of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Metallurgy in all engineering colleges. The subject deals with a detailed study of heat transfer by conduction in stationary media, by convection in moving media and also by radiaton. The book presents the various topics in a systematic way starting from first principles. Several worked examples illustrate the engineering applications of the basic modeling tools developed. The exercises at the end of each chapter challenge the reader to tackle typical real life problems. A chapter on 'Special Topics in Heat Transfer' takes the reader on to more advanced problems in heat transfer. This book would be useful to all first time learners of Heat Transfer at the undergraduate level and would also interest practicing engineers who wish to refresh their knowledge in the field. This text is based on the notes prepared for the course taught for several years at IIT Madras at Chennai and used for the video series as well.
