The Flight

This harrowing story of a family on a journey from which there is no return, takes place during an event known in Germany as Die Flucht, or The Flight, when some 12 million central and Eastern European ethinic-Germans fled to escape the advancing Soviet Army. The year is 1945, and Ida is a mother with a single goal: saving her children. Fleeing their village in East Prussia to the assumed safety of Berlin through the frozen forests of the Baltic peninsula, she quickly discovers that their survival is dependent on her will to save them, and on overcoming the silent tragedies they must fact during the journey west. Traveling by foot, boat and rail across enemy lines, Ida's is a terrifying passage, but her quiet bravery and sorrowful resilience against the depravity of war is captivating.
