As a follow up to the world’s first 3D camera from Fujifilm is the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3DW3 point and shoot 3D camera. This 3D camera can also capable of 2D imagery with a host of special features and functions that one wouldn’t come across in a conventional point and shoot digital camera. This is ideal for those who have basic operational and functional knowledge of a regular digital camera and are looking to push the envelope of creative freedom in modern photography.
This FinePix camera features a focal length of 6.3 to 18.9 mm and a 35 mm equivalent of 35 to 105 mm. The 3D capability of the camera is attributed to the presence of two high quality lenses and two CCD image sensors integrated into a single body. The two Fujinon lenses come with a 3x optical zoom and an additional 5.7x digital zoom for increased magnification. The camera also employs two CCD sensors capable of capturing images at a 10 megapixel resolution.
One of the most unique feature of this camera is the two lenses and two sensors which effectively make it function as two cameras within the same body. This lets the photographer shoot two images simultaneously with completely different settings. With 3D capability, two lenses and two image sensors, the camera still manages to weigh 250 g including memory card and battery, which gives a major boost to the handling and portability of the camera.
The captured 3D images are stored in the MPO+JPEG or MPO file format, while the normal 2D mode saves in the JPEG file format. The video recording in 3D mode is saved in 3D-AVI format with 2 image channel and as AVI in the normal 2D mode. The 3D HD video records at 720p resolution while the 3D images are captured at a high quality resolution of 3,648 x 2,736 pixels. The FinePix Real 3DW3 features a 3.5 inch lenticular type LCD display with a display resolution of 1,150,000 dots. This inbuilt LCD display lets you view stunning 3D images and videos without the use of specialised 3D glasses.
Battery and Storage
This Fujifilm FinePix camera runs on a NP-50 rechargeable lithium-ion battery that is capable of powering up to 150 shots in 3D auto mode, with the power saver enabled. The storage medium in the FinePix 3D camera is in the form of an SD or an SDHC memory card.
The HDMI mini-terminal with HDMI 1.4-3D compatibility gives you the extended pleasure of viewing your 3D content on a 3D TV with the help of its supplied 3D glasses. This video output can be transmitted to the output device through both PAL and NTSC signals. A high-speed USB 2.0 port acts as the camera’s digital interface which helps with the transfer of recorded files from the camera to a PC or a laptop.
Performance
The aperture control on this Fujifilm 3D camera ranges from f/3.7 to f/8.0 (Wide) and from f/4.2 to f/9.0 (Tele). The autofocus on this camera operates using a contrast detection sensor with central focus in 3D and 2D mode, with the inclusion of multi-point focus only when face detection is enabled in 2D mode.
The available ISO speeds on this camera are Auto 400, 800 and 1600, which is equivalent to ISO 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 in standard output sensitivity. The available range of shutter speeds in all the shooting modes including auto is from 1/1000 sec to 1/4 sec with the exception of night mode, which ranges from 1/500 sec to 3 sec. The built-in flash on this camera has an effective range of ISO 800 and operates various flash modes including forced flash, suppressed flash and red-eye reduction.
Features
The Fujifilm FinePix features a number of specialised shooting modes in both 3D and 2D modes that include portrait, sport, night, underwater, anti-blur and more. The 3D mode has interval 3D shooting and individual shutter shooting, while the 2D has tele/wide, 2 colour and 2 sensitivity, all simultaneously shot.
The face detection feature on this camera, which operates only in the 2D mode identifies and locks onto the faces within the frame so they can be given maximum priority compared to the other unimportant elements. The self-timer on this Fujifilm FinePix lets you delay the shutter release by 2 or 10 seconds, giving you enough time to be part of the captured image. Continuous mode on this camera is capable of 2 fps in 3D mode while 1 fps on normal 2D and 3 fps while in 2D high-speed mode.
