The book entitled "Fundamentals of Limnology" has been edited to cover a broad area to freshwater ecology in order to meet the needs of students/researchers interested in all aspects of Freshwater Ecology. Water is essential element for survival and growth of human beings and natural systems. Water ins also important for socio-economic development, food security and poverty alleviation, so water is elixir for human beings. In spite of its elixir for human beings. In spite of its great importance, the quality of natural water resources is being rapped without taking slightest care for the generations to come. How to manage water has, thus, become one of the great challenges of 21st century.

Dr. Arvind Kumar (b. 23.03.1953) University Professor, Department of Zoology, S.K.M University , Dumka (Jharkhand) has 26 years experience as Scholarship all through his college and university years and got meritorial fellowship of CSIR, New Delhi. He has been awarded Professor W.A. Nizami Gold Medal by the Zoological Society of India in 2000 and Dr. S.Z.Qasim Gold Medal by S.V.B. Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut in 2005 for his outstanding achievements.
