  • Description

Gandhi: Naked Ambition, by Jad Adams, offers an account of Gandhi’s life – from his birth and upbringing, to his assassination at the hands of an extremist.

    Summary of the Book

Gandhi was not only a prominent political leader, but a spiritual leader of India’s independence movement, who was a pioneer of non-violent resistance to tyranny through 'satyagraha'. He is revered as the Father of the Nation due to the significant role he played in the formation of India. This book recounts the life story of Mahatma Gandhi, his role in South Africa, his leadership of the Indian National Congress, his campaigns of non-cooperation and nonviolence, and his determination of obtaining self-governance and control of all Indian government institutions, among other enormous contributions. Jad Adams's thoughtful biography not only traces an extraordinary life with exemplary precision, but also studies why Mahatma Gandhi and his teachings are profoundly relevant even today.

    Naked Truth ?

Gandhiji was indeed a great leader, but was he a great politician...? I appreciate the author's effort to provide the readers a different perspective of Gandhi. The author is unbiased in his writing and gives us a in-depth picture of Gandhi's personal as well as public life. Any person who is interested in Indian history will enjoy reading this book.

    Gandhian leadership.

Jad Adams has done a great favour to history by humanizing the "Mahatma".

In our private conversations and coffee house discussions we invariably used to talk about Gandhian ways and their contradictions. Influenced heavily by Jainism in his coming of age years and later on by pacifist thinkers such as Tolstoy, Ruskin, Blavatsky, Thoreau, etc;Gandhi gave shape to his own thoughts and evolved his own dogma.

Gandhi was more concerned with the moral and spiritual development of the "nation" r...

    Englishman's book!

This is a book by an Englishman for Englishmen... Yes, it conveys some facts about Gandhi's sex preferences, and his sheer mediocrity that is hidden from us, Indians by the Nehru dynasty, but this author, Jad Adams is a white racist, and thats all the book is about. Read Ms. Radha Rajan's 'Eclipse of the Hindu Nation, Gandhi and His Freedom Struggle' to get a Indian's view of Gandhi's life. Your money will be better spent there. Jad Adams is complelely unreadable!
