The GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national level exam that undergraduate engineering students write, to qualify for postgraduate and doctoral programs in engineering in institutes like the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science in India. The exam varies with the subject the students specialized in. The exam is jointly held by the IITs and IISC, with financial assistance from the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The exam is 3 hours long and the GATE score is obtained by converting the absolute score of the student in the test to a normalized score using a unique formula.

GATE Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Mechanical Engineering with Solved Papers is a set of two books, GATE Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Mechanical Engineering With Solved Papers & 3 Practice Sets (2013-2011) and GATE Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Mechanical Engineering With Previous Solved Papers (2013-2000). The set proclaims itself to be a complete study guide not just for GATE but for Public Service Exams as well. Along with the detailed syllabus, the books contain question papers from the past GATE exams to help test takers test their knowledge.
