Summary Of The Book
CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) is a preliminary examination carried out to determine the analytical understanding of an individual, rather than their memorizing capabilities. The new pattern of this examination, which has been implemented from 2011 onward, consists of two papers that are of 200 marks each, and their duration is two hours. These examinations are composed of multiple-choice questions only.
General Studies For Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2013 (Paper-1) has been revised keeping in mind the numerous changes that have been made in the pattern of the question paper for such exams. The team of authors for this book comprises fourteen people who are experts in this field. Statement-based questions have been included in each section, as per the new paper pattern.
In total, there are nine chapters in this book, each of which covers highly important topics for this examination. The chapters include General Science, Current Events, Indian And World Geography, Indian National Movement, History Of India, Economic And Social Development, Indian Polity And Governance, General Knowledge, Indian And World Geography, and Environmental Ecology.
The General Knowledge and Current Events section has also been updated right till August, and includes details about the London Olympics. The Indian Polity and Governance section has also been duly updated, and so has the Economic and Social Development section. The General Science section in this book lays emphasis on application-oriented questions. At the end of this book, the readers are also provided with practice question papers, which are prepared in accordance with the layout of this examination. Additionally, readers are also given previous question papers of the past 5 years, from 2008 to 2013. This book also contains explanatory notes.
The book has been published for the past 28 years and it is a guide that will help all aspirants writing the Civil Services Exam.

The best hand book for civil services aspirants
The traditional GK part has been neatly arranged.
In CA, the national and international events, economic developments etc covers all the necessary information and doesn't include any useless information at all.
History and INM , Geography and Sciences are wonderfully written. I strongly believe that there should not be any need to go through the NCERT books after this.
And, the question analysis part in the beginning is really helpful.

It is the best!
Strong subjects: history (except history beyond 1857 which is a international interpretation of indian history, so I recommend you stick to something indian on that front), Geography, and Best for Ecology and Science.
Weak one's: polity (cant beat laxmikanth), economics(finds no mention, better read class 12 macro economics text book)

MUST HAVE BOOK FOR YOUR PREPARATION
This books leads to all the important syllabus coverage. It won't allow you to travel in a wrong way of preparation. Though if you do not study the content from GS Manual you need to have this book aside for your strategy to work in a better way.

Good for GS but not for CSAT
After going through this book you won't be able to clear csat exams but surely you can answers questions asked in other exams like cds, ssc-cgl, ib.
