  • Description

    Called the Song Offerings, the Gitanjali is the culmination of Rabindranath Tagore's literary prowess and the greatest achievement of his poetic legacy.

    Summary of the Book

    Encompassing a praise of nature, the Gitanjali celebrates spiritualism and the beauty of the world for all to see. First written in Bengali and later translated into English for a larger audience, these poems touch upon a single poet's praise for the world in all its glory. The song itself is the offering he makes for nature and in it, one finds sublime messages of spiritualism, devotion and gratitude.

    About Rabindranath Tagore

    Rabindranath Tagore was an Indian poet, writer, philosopher and politician. His writings are considered the epitome of Bengali literature and several of his short stories and novels have been translated into many languages and have subsequently been adapted into hit movies. He is best remembered for: Gora, Kabuliwallah, The Home And The World and Choker Bali.

    He was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, largely for the English translation of the Gitanjali. He was also conferred a knighthood by the British Empire which he renounced to protest against the Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre.

    Gitanjali: a piece of wisdom

    Even before I ordered this book. I already had a virtual ebook of it. A virtual copy which I could have easily contented with. However, it seemed like an essential thing to have it in my hand as a printed book. I wanted to read Rabindranath Tagore's verses each day and cherish it inside my heart, forever.

    I think that few people really buy poetry. But, here is this great poet with some of the most divinely composed verses and having this book it makes me feel like I am the richest and most b...

    Mesmerizing & Classical

    Being a Bengali i have gone through some parts of the Original Gitanjali, which soothes the ear if versed & touches the soul if read,
    Gitanjali is one of the greatest creations, the translation is not perfect but somewhat close to the original masterpiece,

    Those who want to go through a journey of the immaterial world where inner peace & nature & love & beauty harnesses must go through this magical & classical creation.

    Will lift up the Spirit

    Great Work ! Easy to read if you are convenient about some old English word like

    Thou = you
    Thy = your
    hast = have

    "Noble acceptance speech" at the end of the book is really a bonus.

    I really liked the Rupa Publication too (The paper quality & print are really impressive - Some book I bough with same publisher are : Pride & Prejudice, Gandhi Auto-Bio )
