Magic...

I honestly do not know whether to give this book 5 stars for being one of the most completely engrossing, shocking, and emotionally absorbing pieces of literature ever written, or to give it 0 stars for being the most tragic, unendingly upsetting, disturbing book I've ever read. It was so completely absorbing and magical. I can???t even begin to describe it. Just like love and other abstract stuff, this book needs to be experienced. A must must must read.

A Must Read for Anyone With a Conscience

With Scarlett O'Hara, one of literature's most well known personalities, as it's lead protagonist, Gone With The Wind lives upto all the hype that surrounds it,as one of the greatest love stories ever,by actually not being an out-and-out love story.
A great narration that transports you to the not-so-familiar times of the late 1800s,real characters who have both virtues and vices and are therefore, both endearing and not so endearing at the same time,Gone With The Wind makes one see the other side (i.e. the southerners' outlook) of the civil war coin, helps one broaden their outlook,entertains...

More than anything, one grows with Scarlett as she does, with every page of the book.
So,I'd definitely recommend Gone With The Wind, for at the end of the day,Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler will make you fall in love with them,as they do themselves. It really is a book for people of all generations, and the ultimate love story.

A marvellous, unforgettable love story...

It's literally a week after finishing this book that I can bear at all to write a review. I bought the book a few months ago,but its sheer size scared me off. Many a times I took the book, flipped through 3-4 pages and put it back in the shelf. And then finally I read it. And I loved it. This book is so utterly different from any other book I've read previously. In most of the love stories I've seen the protagonists are to epitomize all the goodness of human nature. This book is so utterly different from any other book I've read previously. In most of the love stories I've seen the protagonists are to epitomize all the goodness of human nature. They share, they care and all that. But here the author dared to rip open the true nature of human character and the way she did it was just amazing. You don???t always meet protagonists in a love story who are social outcasts. Now we are all a bit selfish in our heart and it???s quite natural, a survival instinct. We are not able to completely drive away the selfishness even when the circumstances demand it. Mitchell???s Rhett and Scarlett seemed to me very earthy and not some characters dropped from heaven. They are no ideal characters that one would like to be or dare to be, Yet one cannot help loving them.
And I loved all the other characters. Each one has its own essence and contributed to enrich the story as a whole.
It's a historical novel but unlike in other occasions I was never bored with the historical details presented in this book. They are so intertwined with the lives of the characters that I felt it???s a part of the story.
The book has a twisted tragic end, an end one can never imagine of. Immediately after reading the book I cried the whole evening and the next day and the next. The characters, the dialogues, especially those at the end kept haunting me for days. I was so depressed for the last week. And now I can say, this story undoubtedly tops the list of love stories I've ever read.
Now that I finished the book, I really miss Rhett, Scarlett and Melanie. It left me wanting for more which I'll never get. Though it has a sequel "Scarlett" by Alexandra Ripley but I've heard it has failed to keep up with the standards of 'Gone with the wind'. I wish Mitchell herself wrote a sequel to this. Reading the book was a hell of an experience. I can never forget Rhett and Scarlett. Yes, it has that much impact on me.

must read for everyone!

The best novel I have ever read...
Though from a different era and different culture, this is one novel which is a must have for everyone (even if you dont read)

Margaret, portrayal of Scarlet and Rhett, though negative , makes us love them. Bringing out emotions such as this is a rarity. The focus is not only on the main characters but the way the author brings out short lived characters of Tartetons and Caverts, is spectacular and leaves you heart wrenched on their demise.

The focus is not only on the main characters but the way the author brings out short lived characters of Tartetons and Caverts, is spectacular and leaves you heart wrenched on their demise.

We have been brought up in a way where slavery is despised, and hence the greatest civil war, should have their support with Linchon and north America (called Yankees here), but here south has all our sympathy and that is only because, we kind of lived those characters of Ashley Wilkes, Melanie Hamilton, Mrs Merriwether, Mrs Meade, Ellen O Hara, Gerald O Hara and without mentioning Scarlett O Hara and Rhett butler, that we feel their pain and emotions like one of our own.

The struggle of Scarett wins our heart and in her own small way teached us not to give up "I will think of it tomorrow, after all tomorrow is another day" and the way she regains her strength despite all odds makes us believe that is for those who takes all.

My Final love and respect for character of Rhett Butler, for ever being so cunning, chivalrous, disrespectful yet so very honest and lovable

Rating out is 5 is so meaningless. Its 100 out of 5!!

A must-read for any book lover!

There are just way too many things I love about this book!

One, it a journey into a life that I, a city-dweller in the 21st century has never, and will never lead; two, it has characters you easily relate to and feel connected to; three, it is a very effective portrayal of life in its true unfair sense and not the perfect, ideal one that we read about in a lot of other books.

Rhet Butler is another reason I read this book again and again, and each time I read it, I find myself wistfully wishing men like that existed in real life!

Rhet Butler is another reason I read this book again and again, and each time I read it, I find myself wistfully wishing men like that existed in real life!

Scarlet's character is another intriguing factor of the book. As you read along you love her, hate her, and wonder what on earth was she thinking; much like you do with the people in your life!

So all in all, I love the book. have read it at least 4 times, and it never gets boring!
