Grandma's Bag of Stories (Paperback) Price: Rs.165

Grandma’s Bag Of Stories, written by Sudha Murty, is a book where stories of courageous kings, princesses turning into onions, and angry bears coming to life are told through the creative story-telling of a beloved grandmother.

Summary Of The Book

In Grandma’s Bag Of Stories, author Sudha Murty reunites both children and adults with the pleasant memories of their grandmother and her story-telling. The stories in this book are based on the stories which Murty heard in her childhood.

Grandma’s Bag Of Stories begins with the onset of the summer holidays in the village of Shiggaon, Karnataka. Grandma and grandpa, or Ajji and Ajja as they are typically known, are eagerly waiting for their seven grandchildren to arrive. In anticipation of their arrival, Ajji has prepared everyone’s favourite dishes. She even rushed through her bath and quickly put on a cotton sari, just so that she could wait on the veranda. As soon as the children reached, they jumped out of the car and rushed to Ajji to hug her. After inspecting the entire house, and gorging on Ajji’s delicacies, the children quickly sit around Ajji, eagerly awaiting the best and most anticipated part of their holidays, Ajji’s bag of stories. In this memorable scenario, to which all readers can relate to, Grandma’s Bag Of Stories begins.

Murty’s collection of 22 stories are a great way for parents to impart important morals and values to their children, which they will carry forward into their adult years. Principles such as the importance of kindness, sharing, and working together, are all conveyed through the memorable characters and magical tales in this book. Some of these wonderful story titles are The Kingdom Of Fools, How the Seasons Got Their Share, The Story Of Silk, and The Donkey And The Stick. Colourful illustrations by Priya Kurian accompany all the stories, making the characters come to life. These illustrations can also serve as a colouring book.

Grandma’s Bag Of Stories was published in 2012 by Puffin.

My childhood revisited.

Grandma's bag of stories is indeed a great read. Sudha Murty's simple and lucid style of writing makes reading a pleasure. I was taken back to my childhood days as a young girl in kozhikode, where my cousins and I used to listen to stories from an old neighbour whom we used to call "Aai".An extraordinary lady full of life, she
regaled us with mythology and morals through her stories.
Mrs.Murty's easy flow of words and her ability to keep the children engrossed and create suspense about the next day's story is most appealing. Her stories inform, motivate and teach children to treat all human beings,(including birds and animals) with respect. Preeti Parekh.

Wonderful stories which keeps my little nephew engaged

My nephew is 5 years old and daily he wants stories to sleep, eat, and even to sit still..

I used to tell him all kids stories from his age of 3 and worst part is he remembers every single of word of it. Imagine, i have told the story of The Hobbit and, when next time i repeated the same, he remembered the names of all 13 dwarfs! Soon i ran out of new stories, and repetition became extremely boring for his small super-fast brain..

The usual kids story picture books, contain only one story with big-big pictures and it gets finished so soon. And stories are also common.

But in this book, all stories were quite new, and unheard of. And it is kind of easy for the kid to understand the moral too.

One more good thing is, it doesn't contain any story that says cunning mind will win. Most of the stories have humans as characters and not the talking monkeys, giraffes or lions.
It talks about the values of relations too and shows how nice it will be to be with grandma, grandpa and cousins, which is one thing the new generation kids have to know.

Overall, it is a good book and worth for the money.

Great Read

i ordered the book for my little nephew, but ended up reading it myself. the book certainly reminds of your childhood days. N hats off to Sudha Murthy mam, for her story telling skills and impeccable style of putting across valuable lessons to children in very easy language.I only feel that there could have been more colorful illustrations.

GRANDMA’S BAG OF STORIES -   (2/5)

By Sudha Murthy
It’s a good book for children of age 6-8 years by Sudha Murthy, stories contained are often true. Book is collection of short stories reflecting a normal Indian family life, Children going to their grandma place in vacations. Every child at least once in a year visit their grandparent’s place. Children listen to stories which are unbelievable, share things and enjoy. This book is also a kind of that stuff, where grandma tells children some unbelievable stories in which the man fly, tigers are eaten etc. It can be read for just time pass.

best gift for a child

I did not buy this from flipkart.I bought it from Amazon.in,since i need the book within 2 days.Flipkart's delivery speed is not enough for me.Ok,it delivered in just 1½ days.i presented it last week on his b'day(he was my cousin,a ten yr old boy). From the small he doesn't like me,i don't know why.But after presenting this book to him, the very next day he came to me and apologized for all the rude behaviour of him towards me.He told me that this book is very nice to read.I know that he has no interest in book-reading from the childhood.I'm just opposite to him.I felt happy and going to buy another book for my friend's b'day.
