Green Tree - Environmental Studies: Book 4

Green Tree is an Environmental Studies series of six books for the pre-primary and primary classes. These books aim to make the children understand their immediate environment better---both natural and social. The revised series views environmental science more holistically, integrating elements of both science and social studies as advocated by the new NCERT guidelines. Accordingly, Green Tree has made an attempt to locate every theme in physical, social, and cultural contexts critically so that the child can make informed choices. The series follows a mix of both prescriptive and descriptive approach––catering not only to mixed-ability children but also to teachers with different orientations and sensibilities. The books strive to be more inclusive by being sensitive to the issues of gender, class, region, religion, etc. At the same time, the books underscore the diverse and plural character of our social and physical environment and help children to appreciate this. (For example, in the lessons dealing with food and clothes we have tried to cover as many different regions as possible).
