  • Description

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a historical novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It tells the story of a female newspaper columnist and her correspondence with a man who has found one of her old books.

    Summary of the Book

When Juliet receives a letter from a man on Channel Island, she has no idea how her relationship with him is about to change her life. The man claims to have found one of her old books, which contained her name and her old London address. He wrote to her asking her help in finding a biography of Charles Lamb, the illustrious English essayist. The man is a member of the island’s only book club, and he sounds earnest in his hunt for the book. Juliet is impressed by the man’s dedication in locating a copy of this biography, and she soon begins exchanging letters with him. She is drawn into his world, the world of a curious club called the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which is peopled by some of the most colourful members of the island’s society. She finds herself falling in love with the society and to discover more for herself, she journeys to the island, not knowing that this is about to change her life forever.

    My Views on this Book

To say in just one line, yes, the book is as strange as its title.

It is story of a 32 year old female writer Juliet Ashton, who has just got success with his humorous articles in the news paper in the time of 2nd world war. But now she wants to write something different, something which can make her content, but is not sure about what. Then all of sudden arrives a letter from a channel island called Guernsey from an unknown person Dawsey Adams. As the letters flew back and forth, the life o...

    Worth reading!

It is a story in the form of letters which beautifully tells the story of the ordinary people during German Occupation, how they tried to cope up with it. The narrative is also woven with the stories of those who had been in German Prison camps and the trauma of the survivors. Above all, it is the story of triumph of human compassion and courage.

    Terrible product

The copy that I have received had quite a few blank pages bang in the middle of the book. This is something that I hadn't noticed before the 10-day return period was over. Even though the product is sold by a Flipkart assured seller, it's best not to buy a copy from this seller.
