This book gives you a birds eye view of the successful retail chain business that Mr.Kishore Biyani has built up. The book takes you from Kishore's childhood days, pictures his entrepreneurial spirit that was well evident even from his early days, how he tried one after another and then how he ended up finding his unique business. Also takes you indepth in to how they do market research, How they chose what products to present, how to display etc, how they handled difficult situations and much more.
About the con - The book says that they don't like and use systems and processes to run their business. Not sure if I missed it, but one thing I really wanted to know was, how they really run their business, manage staffs, manage the different malls, outlets across the country etc. But I couldn't find it.
Anyway, It was an easy read even for someone like me who is not an avid reader. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to build a business that's huge and totally unique.
I really liked it its a nice book
Kishore is the co-author of the book "It happened in India". It is the story of Pantaloons, Big Bazaar, Central and the Great Indian Consumer, co-authored with Dipayan Baishya.
A short book of less than 300 pages is always good to read. With a story that goes inside this book, you never feel like keeping the book aside even for a glass of water.
The pioneer of retail business who can be called "Sam Walton" in India is gutsy, maverick and a true visionary. He changed the way we shop.
The book gives an account of his understanding of Indian Retail Sector, his vision and the hardships he faced to reach there. An amazing book about a first generation entrepreneur who can be as inspirational and as motivating as Sam Walton himself.

A good account of the rise of Kishore Biyani as an entrepreneur. The author has focused on both, his successes and failures, rather than blow his trumpet.
The paper quality was decent and the content neatly organized.

No words to explain the ambidexterous personality Mr.Kishore Biyani. his vision in retail market is very sharp and bright.this book shows how man started his journey from small shop of clothes and how he became indian's Biggest retailer King.ans still no one indian man or indian compoany cross the suceess of Mr.biyani.
I have read this book many times. I think Kishoreji has done commendable work by giving detailed description of the perceptions and experiences during the journey from a small enterprise to Big Bazaar. It inspires anyone that reads it to dream big and achieve what we think "the haves only can achieve".
kishoreji has truly written about the hardships he went through and the time when he realized his dream and went on to build the largest retail group in India. along with his views , many of his friends , colleagues et al have written about him and that adds better insights to his auto biography .
the best part i like is , it was saravana stores Chennai which inspired him on to building the big bazaar. he also shares the books he has read. and he has made a statement ideas and innovations are in front or beside us u need not travel the west to discover an innovation .
can be read within a weeks time .
I have read the book 2-3 times. A very very inspiring book which gives a sightful of moral and simplicity through which kishore biyani achived his goal. It shows that in indian context rules and challanges are different as compare to western world and by applying the ancient indian values in the business you can do very well.
A inspiring story of an Entrepreneur who faced various hardship in his way to achieving a great place in retail market. With miraculous leadership skills and way of thinking different and with a aim to achieve something different.
