I have a Dream (English) (Audiobook) Price: Rs.143

This is an inspiring collection of stories of people who found enterprising ways to help other people.

Summary Of The Book

Helping other people has always been seen as pure acts of charity, going out and volunteering time and money, donating money to charity organizations etc. Or, at the least, the taxes that people pay helps the government devise plans to help people who are disadvantaged in many ways.

But some people came up with some novel ideas to help the disadvantageous others, to create a change in the society, to solve problems. This book contains their stories.

The book is divided into three sections, which are Rainmakers, Changemakers, and Spiritual Capitalists. Each section contains stories of people who are working towards the goal of helping others.

The Rainmakers section contains stories of people who create social enterprises in order to help people. These include Bindeshwar Pathak, the man behind Sulabh International, whose organization works to promote better living conditions, and social and environmental reforms.

The Changemakers section is about people who dare to take action to bring about big changes in society. They take a small step towards effecting big changes. These are stories of people like Anshu Gupta, who started Goonj, an organization that provides clothes to the poor. Goonj uses clothes not just as cover for the body, but uses the resources in other enterprising ways, to motivate cleanliness and sanitary practices, and to motivate kids to go to school.

Spiritual Capitalists section contains stories of people who dedicate their lives to the high purpose of spiritual enlightenment. But, they do not lose sight of the immediate material needs of the people, and take action to mitigate daily challenges faced by the under privileged.

This section contains stories like that of Vinayak Lohani, who after graduating from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), decided to turn to spirituality and help people in need. This took the form of the Parivaar Ashram, a facility that takes care of orphans and other under privileged children, and taking care of all their needs such as housing, food, clothing, education, and all round development.

These are stories of ordinary people, who decided to dedicate their lives to work for the welfare of the society, and found different ways of doing it. They thought differently, and came up with unique solutions to many old challenges. Dhruv Lakra started a courier business, Mirakle Courier. The twist is that he employs only deaf people. As he says, the courier business is ideal for the hearing impaired, as these people are not forced to communicate with the people they deliver the parcels to. All the person has to do is sign a receipt and get the package.

An inspiring book about how some innovative thinking can create opportunities to help overcome many of the problems in the society today.

Good Report, Bad Book

I bought this book online a few days ago and I have to say,I really believed it was going to be a great read. Unfortunately though, my expectations were shunned and the book failed at so many places.
I was really shocked to see how little the author has to say, apart from the often used "...the year was.." or the occasional description of the subject's reaction, or the deliberate mention of her hearing things from the subjects, there isn't really anything that feels like its coming from the author's pen.
The author could've just gone and made a Blog post out of this, would've co...

The author could've just gone and made a Blog post out of this, would've cost less and not to mention saved a lot of trees.
There were so many instances when I just wanted to close the book but I decided to respect a best selling author of the nation and go through with it. I'm really trying hard to be polite but the only things I found useful were a couple of one liners and the last two pages.
I still believe Rashmi's intent is good and she means to do more than just sell stories, But one things certain, she needs to stop interviewing and start real writing.

Paper Quality of this book not worth the price

This is my 3rd order from flipkart and was again impressed by the prompt delivery of this book. But this time, the paper quality of the book was not good (smells awful). The same quality book can be easily purchased from roadside vendors for Rs 40-50. So I wont recommend buying book from this publisher.

social entrepreneurship- an aspect

when I ordered this book, I was of the view that it would be one like the usual self-help books but then too the previous reviews motivated me to just order it out...
read it...
it has stories of 25 individuals who live ordinary life but end up doing extra ordinary for others...
it's a sheer pleasure to read it for you get positive vibes and motivation throughout your read..
you have a message by these individuals at the end of their stories....
they are called as 'social entrepreneur' for the reason that they initiated something which has a social link and benefits to it....
over all a goo...

Striking!!!!...Will make you to think what have you done to this society!!!

This book has definitely made me think--- why are we looking towards the west for every answer, when we have the full capability to fight and design a solution????..People have done it in past!!!It is a shame on us that we don't recognize the kind of work we Indians are doing remaining in the country itself..How many of us are actually investing our time to do something for the society???the number is very less!!!..Though we are topping the list in population explosion!!

This book has brought how a simple idea can change your whole life, which can totally change the way of thinking and perceiving things in society.

Pros:

- had a photo before a story begins, which satisfied the anxiety that happens if we read through and does not know who that person is.
- covered various fields and not just related to business
- has stories for the utilities which were used by us at some or the other point but we have never thought how did it came into existence. For Example : Sulabh International!!

Cons:
I did not find any..Still Reading!!!

I think this is a must read for everyone!! I will not say it is inspiring..but striking....

Effective and Excellent

This book is not fiction.
Each story in this book motivates you. it reinforces the faith about our country.
The style of writing is unique I think. Most of the time - it is from the heart expressed in a simple way. No superlatives, no efforts to please anybody . as it is. this is the most appea...

Pretty Boring

The book is fatter than the usual Rashmi Bansal books. It shouldn't have been! She should have reduced the number of stories.
Stopped in the middle. Went through only a few stories. Didn't find many interesting ones.
