From Heaven Lake: Travels through Sinkiang and Tibet

This is one of the finest travelogues I have read. Written in a very simple language, not boasting about personal triumphs of visiting (or rather reaching) places, this book brings people and places of China and Tibet to you. His style of writing is unique for this form of writing and is certainly very fresh. This one is a must read!

This is another treat for fans of Vikram Seth. For those aware of his writing, this one shows you how versatile he is. The simplicity in his writing comes through easily in this travel book. I particularly liked it because it gives a glimpse into the author's life unlike most of his other publications, which are works of fiction.

The book is highly recommended also for those who may have never read his work. It's a very engrossing and interesting collection of his travels. While giving you an insight into China, the book steers clear of making any judgements, but provides enough facts for you to get a picture.

A very beautiful and honest account of Vikram Seth's travels across China. A travelogue, it is one of the best I have read. He descriptions of his interactions with many Chineese, places ,landscapes are very imaginative and draw a great picture in your mind.

The book is superbly well-written and deserves to be read multiple times & found on any bookshelf.
