Book: Heidi Heidi is one of the best known works of Swiss literature, writen by Johanna Spyri in 1880. It is the story of a young orphan who is intially raised by her aunt Dete, but alter brought to her grandfather who lives in seclusion in an alpine cottage. Heidi does not go to school, but spends her time with Peter, a shepherd boy, on the green pastures of the Swiss Alps.
Dete returns 3 years later to take Heid to Frankfurt as a companion to a 12 year-old rich but invalid girl named Clara Sesemann. Heidi spends a year with Clara and learns to read and write in her company. But she finds it difficult to adjust to the strict discipline enforced by the stern governess Miss Rottenmejer. She gets very depressed and homesick, and starts to walk in her sleep. Her failing health prompts Clara's doctor to send her bacn home to her grandfather.
