Heroes of Olympus : The Lost Hero (Paperback) Price: Rs.175

Heroes Of The Olympus: The Lost Hero is a fantasy adventure novel based on Roman and Greek mythology.

Summary Of The Book

The first in a series of novels titled Heroes of The Olympus, the book was written in an attempt to unravel several untouched Roman and Greek myths.

Heroes Of The Olympus: The Lost Hero begins with Jason returning to consciousness on a school bus next to Piper, his girlfriend, and Leo, his best friend. Jason is suffering from memory loss and can’t recollect many things. As the trip proceeds, the trio and the coach are attacked by Dylan, a classmate who turns into a storm spirit. Jason, to everyone’s surprise, turns one of his coins into a sword and fights with it. The fight ends with Coach Hedge, actually a satyr, being taken captive by a spirit and a flying chariot arriving to pick the trio up. However, a classmate Annabeth is upset when she finds that her boyfriend, whom she had come looking for as directed by Goddess Hera, is not amongst them.

After returning to the camp, the trio discovers that they are all demigods and are assigned the task of rescuing Hera, who has been captured. During the operation, they meet several gods and Jason also meets his sister, who he had been separated from at the age of two.
The trio seek the help of their respective parents to rescue Hera. However, after the same, the King of Giants rises with Hera’s energy and disappears down under the earth when Hera attempts to kill him. Will Jason comprehend what these occurrences mean? Will he be able to overcome the memory loss he suffered initially? All these questions and more are answered in this book.

Heroes Of The Olympus: The Lost Hero received rare accolades and won the Barnes & Noble award for the best book in 2010 and also remained a bestseller for quite some time.

I actually enjoyed the book. Even more than the entire Percy Jackson & The Olympians series. It's a light read, and every page keeps you entertained. And I don't agree with the previous review, because the book isn't very predictable. The characters are very enjoyable, and this book is much more complex in terms of the twists and turns in the plot. If you enjoyed the Percy Jackson series, then, go ahead and read this book too. I did, and I can't wait for the sequel! As for the whole issue that Rick Riordan handles death very lightly, you can't forget that Rick Riordan's target audience is kids and young teens, who wouldn't really want a lot of chapters where their favourite character is in mourning.

Fun to read, a definite page turner

Mythomagical world of Camp Half-Blood see the beginning of the next Great prophecy, the one cited by Rachel(The Oracle)in The Last Olympian.
I won't talk 'bout the plot as most of it is already there and adding anything would be a spoiler.

As far as the writing style is concerned, its a little matured if compared to the former books. The humor is developed and makes you smile even when the situation is dangerous, I mean deadly dangerous.

However what appears as a great improvement is the emotional flow of the characters. The way they feel for each other. Their connection to their parents(esp Piper's father, though is ignorant most times, but still she dares to risk everything for him), Annabeth's concern for Percy(though the book is certainly not 'bout them).
And the mysterious style always there with Riordan, You won't find the answers until you get to the last page.

So to sum-up, an above average adventure story, blending a lot of stuff, which keeps you turning the pages until all the bad guys are beaten.

COMPLETELY AWESOME!!!

The book is awesome really - better than all three books. All demigods show their talents through several occasions while Percy and Annabeth wander the deadly realm of Tartarus. Since no one can give a perfect description for tartarus, i would say riordan has done an excellent job imagining it as horrible as possible. Spoiler alert: The starting chapters itself are awesome when Hazel meets hecate who warns that she would meet a formidable enemy in the house of hades. hazel discovers her talent for magic and mist manipulation. Also, the Romans and Greeks are expected to be at peace and i wish that reyna returns the athena parthenos safely to camp half blood. many say there was no cliffhanger but i feel the ending was - whether reyna and nico would make it or will any of the seven die - will bob and damsen return alive (their sacrifice almost brought tears to my eyes) - and all... So IT IS AWESOME AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE BLOOD OF OLYMPUS - the title itself is scary....

Totally worth it!

First of all, thanks to Flipkart for being amazing!

**SPOILER ALERT**
“To my wonderful readers:
Sorry about that last cliffhanger.
Well, no, not really. HAHAHAHA.
But , seriously, I love you guys.”
So, Rick must have a serious death wish if that’s his dedication.
I had to wait a slow, painful year to finally get my hands on HoH. So, I rip open the plastic with this mad glint in my eye and take in the wonderful sight. I caress the book and the very sight of the beautiful red torture instrument in my hands and the intoxicating smell of the pages was enough to lull my anger at having had to wait a whole freakin’ year to know what happens next. The funny thing is, we actually like being tortured. So, I then slowly, carefully open the book and get to the dedication page. Those four lines, those four horrible, terrible lines were enough to rekindle my anger and mentally drive a Basilisk fang through the book. There was only so much I could do to not actually drive a Basilisk fang through the book. Apart from the fact that they don’t really exist. You shall pay for that, Riordan!*shakes finger at sky*
So, apart from the dedication (hmph), the book was brilliant! You want action, you’ve got it. You want adorable Percabeth moments, you’ve got it. You want witty, you’ve got it. You want scary, you’ve got it. You want equal parts funny and equal parts sad, you’ve got it. You want heartbreaking, you’ve got it. You’ve got pretty much everything! Including amazing plot development and character development. This book is the best in the HoO series so far.
The way Rick has written the Tartarus episode is amazing. The cover of the book helped as it gave off this whole Tartarus vibe. I could actually feel my throat burn every time they drank from the river, I could actually smell the sulphur in the air and I could also see Bob’s silver hair glow. Bob and Small Bob were awesome! They were so adorable together and I got all teary eyed when they had to leave them behind. And the Percabeth moments though very little were definitely enough to bring out a prolonged ‘Aw’.
Soo, Nico’s gay. Damn Percy. He just has to make everyone fall for him, doesn’t he? Stupid, stupid Percy. I hope Nico realizes that it’s alright for him to stay at Camp Half-Blood and finally have a place to belong because like Jason said, we’re here to back you up, Nico.
Leo and Calypso. *wail*Whyyyy? Why did Leo have to leave her? That was one of the most heartbreaking sweet-and-sad-at-the-same-time moments! It’s great that Leo finally found someone and also that Calypso finally found someone who didn’t already have a Penelope, Elizabeth or an Annabeth. Go Caleo!
Well, one of the good things is that it didn’t end with a major cliffhanger. I had to wait until I read the last word of the last line of the last page to decide that there were no cliffhangers. Haha. Stupid Riordan. I hate you. But I love you!
Can’t wait for the next book!

Amazing Book

The Heroes of Olympus series is as promising as the Percy Jackson series. It is actually in continuation with Percy Jackson. If you are a Percy Jackson fan, I guarantee you it's as awesome as the the rest in the series.
If you have read Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian, I'm sure you remember the next great prophecy recited by Rachel-the new Oracle. This book is based on that prophecy, and the book introduces 3 new heroes out of the 7 in the Great Prophecy. Jason, Leo and Piper are the main characters, out of which Jason has lost all his memory and is the main focus. The trio are sent on a quest to rescue the queen of gods Hera who has been captured by Rhea, the mother of the titans and giants. I won't give away all the suspense here, of course, but I can give you enough hint that there are two Camp Half Bloods, and there has been an exchange of leaders(namely Percy and Jason) so that the two camps can unite and fight together against the super-powerful giants. The second book of this series(Son of Neptune) focuses on Percy Jackson who is missing in the first book. I am yet to read the latest book, so sorry..no reviews for that :)
