This is the most amazing book I have ever read. I read it when I was 17by taking it from my friend,Now I have my own copy and reading it again. Cried so many times thinking how politicians treated our army. I salute all the soldiers who has fought for us in those extremes and Brigadier Dalavi who has given us such a wonderful book. I suggest every Indian to read this book to know our history where our soldiers have lost their lives because of the politics and the foolishness of the people, they didn't listen to the experts and finally messing up everything. It's a heart throbbing story. I'm feeling like seeing the places in the book. There is one point where my heart started pounding, when one of our soldier didn't have sun glasses and went blind and our politicians were busy going for foreign trips.Nice job by Brigadier Dalavia and a great translation by Ravi Belegere.
Can you imagine yourself at highest peaks of Eastern India filled with ice caps with no proper snow glasses, no proper shoes, no snow dressing and with merely 30 bullets in your pockets and having got orders from 'Delhi' to fight the big 20000 Chinese soldiers. This was the state of Indian Military in 1962 which is illustrated in this small but important book with the words from John P Dalvi and penned by Ravi Belegare. The english version of the same book with same title is banned by GOI. John P Dalvi calls the mistake of 1962 China war as blunder as big as Himalayas and hence the title. Kindly do read it to get a bite of reality of how Politics mixes with Military and causes the unseen.
John P Dalvi who was a brigadier of the 7th Brigade in the Sino-Indian war of 1962, describes a true story of how the brave soldiers of the Indian Army were made to fight a war with hopeless supplies and only verbal assurances of backup & support. An absolutely spineless & unprepared Indian govt under J. Nehru (the then PM of India) and defense minister Krishna Menon led the soldiers into their DOOM ignoring the military intelligence reports and their strategic approach. Ravi Belagere does an amazing job at the translation and makes it a worth-read for readers of all age groups.
