Football is Religion in Iran, Economics in America, Politics in Spain & Ghana, this programme follows footballs role within international cultures. This programme shows about the rise & brilliance of Maradona and also Worlds Best Goal of the century, very rare footage of the Uruguay team at the 1924 & 1928 Olympics as well as winning them 1930 World Cup. Diego Maradona justifies his Hand of God goal that knocked England out of the 1986 World Cup.
This programme shows how the game developed its unique rules through Mexico, China, Japan, and how these were then exported to the modern world. It tells from relatively modest beginnings, FIFA became a multi-billion dollar organisation.
This programme shows the Dark Side of football, tragedies that have brought communities together, a war sparked by a match, and hooliganism that has threatened the very existence of the game.
This series is full of footage and interviews covering every aspect of the game, but what it does do is focus quite strongly on the true history. Interviews with some of the biggest names are here, along with some footage that most would have never seen before. The series boasts that it contains every World Cup Final goal up to and including the 1998 final, the first ever filmed international match between Wales and Ireland, the first England versus Scotland match ever filmed in 1907, the first FA Cup Final ever filmed between Tottenham and Sheffield Wednesday in 1901, Evolution of The European game, European Superpowers, and For Clubs & Country. All these are included and so much more.
The content is absolutely great. Nice story telling technique you will enjoy. Starts off with the Stars of Football and not really a chronological evolution of football. I kind of like this because I could relate to all the big names. As I watched the other episodes I warmed up to the other lesser known charachters.
The disappointment was around the resolution. I connected the output to my 40inch LCD TV. comes out in 4:3 form factor (black pillars on the side).
