The (Honest) Truth about Dishonesty (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.231

Fascinating and provocative, Ariely’s The Truth About Dishonesty  is an insightful and brilliantly researched take on cheating, deception and willpower. Internationally bestselling author Ariely pulls no punches when it comes to home truths.

Previous titles PREDICTABLY IRRATIONAL and THE UPSIDE OF IRRATIONALITY have becomes classics in their field, revealing unexpected and astonishing traits that run through modern humankind. Now acclaimed behavioural economist Dan Ariely delves deeper into the dark and murky recesses of contemporary psychology, daring to ask the big questions: What makes us cheat? How and why do we rationalise deception of ourselves and other people, and make ourselves ‘wishfully blind' to the blindingly obvious? What affects our infuriatingly  intangible willpower and how can we ‘catch’ the cheating bug from other bad apples? If you’ve ever wondered how a whole company can turn a blind eye to evident misdemeanours within their ranks, whether people are born dishonest and whether you can really be successful by being totally, brutally honest, then Dan has the answers, and many more.

Aha! Here Dan Ariely brings a great read!

We all are dishonest, in some sense!
We hardly tend to accept this, at least publicly. Dan Ariely (who earlier gave us two delightful reads: 'Predictably Irrational' and 'The Upside of Irrationality')once again comes up with a wonderful account of "Why", and more interestingly "How", we turn to be dishonest. His 'honest' research on 'dishonesty' is worth a read, not only for those who enjoy reading about human behavior, but also who observe (and most of the times, are fed up with, and start complaining why this or that is happening!) idiosyncrasies in the society.

This book is a must read for academic as well as non academic researchers, practitioners, and observers alike.
I would give it a double 'thumb-up'!

Appropriate

All of us are caught in the web of honesty and dishonesty, morality, sin and so on.Even golf players are not free from being dishonest. Some acts though dishonest are considered honest or are ignored as trivial. Drawing a moral line changes from person to person and from society to society. Its agood book, in that, the reader can place himself on the honesty meter. The book can be recommended for students at degree level as a text book.

Dan ariely's best work

Heavy emphasis on dishonesty at a personal level and how it can slowly but surely creep into institutional structures.

Also gives a good account of our incredible power to rationalize dishonest behavior within limits.

Very well written and fun to read and presents the dark side of our actions in a very light and enjoyable manner.
