  • Description

Hot Tea Across India is a travelogue, which comprises interesting stories of the writer’s journey to the Himalayan region and through the length and breadth of India.

    Summary Of The Book

Combining travel and tea, Hot Tea Across India documents interesting incidents on the writer’s journeys across India, from the Himalayan region to Delhi and Mumbai. The author mostly travels on his Bullet where he can, and where he cannot, he sends his bike on to destinations where he can use it. He talks about the incidents where he lost his vehicle, and he was even compelled to sell it at one point. He had to bribe policemen and railway clerks to ensure that he could keep possession of his precious bike and take it everywhere with him.

A big part of the book is dedicated to his travel experiences while driving across the Himalayan region, including places like Ladakh and Kashmir, and also the 'Dhabas' and eateries along the way. He narrates his experiences in Raid-de-Himalayas, an annual off-road motor sport event.
Hot Tea Across India has tongue-in-cheek descriptions of the travails of travel in India, like the one about the ‘Luxarey’ bus that he travelled in, from Haridwar to Manali. He recounts his various experiences on the way, including the time when he was apprehended as a terrorist to hitching a ride on a truck from Mumbai to Delhi.

The linking factor in all these accounts is the author’s experience of drinking tea, wherever he went. Each place had its own unique tradition and specialties, and the author managed to locate a tea stall wherever he went, even in the remotest corner of the country.

The book also contains a description of Mehta’s memorable dining experiences and the various places that he stayed in. He describes the varied cuisines he tasted across the country, and also provides tips on how to find the best places to dine in.

Hot Tea Across India is anecdotal and filled with interesting incidents. Hilarious and witty, this travelogue attempts to offer an insightful read.

    It's Hilarious!

This book is about Rishad Saam Mehta's adventures or should i say misadventures during his trips across the length and breadth of India. His style of writing is very similar to some of the old humour writers in the past, jerome k jerome for eg.
This is an easy read and is the perfect book for a quick read just before turning in for the night.
There are some great laugh out loud moments in the book, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

    'Hot Tea' turned cold

It's easy, funny and frivolous at the same time. Nothing great about the way it has been written. Anyone who loves travelling, can observe and has a sense of putting his thoughts across can come up with a book like this. Looks like the author was in the habit of writing a travel diary, from where he picked anecdotes and simply spruced up the language while converting it into a book. Was he also trying to please certain people/place, whose services he took, cant be said.

    The book gave an imp...

    A Decent Read...

A travelogue according to me is the most difficult to write. How can one capture images, beauty, and memories in a book? How much would it take to conjure every detail on the trips that you have made and the people you have met? I always marvel at the skill of writers who accomplish writing a travelogue to the smallest details. I started reading, “Hot Tea across India” on a cold night in December and it was a great experience.

I have always been wary of travelogues written by Indian writers...

    Failed Experiment

Well, I experimented with this book. Ordered it here after reading some of the reviews. Sadly, I am thoroughly disappointed. Firstly, I did not like the style of his writing. Its too casual, not that I don't appreciate casual writings, but this book is more like a blog written by some random writer. Not worth it. And some of the stories he tells would seem unreal. Something straight out of a Bollywood movie.

    lukewarm tea

Though the journey through the treacherous mountain tracks may be hair raising, this recounting of it is not. It is a gentle and delicate affection of a man and a machine that echoes through the different trips. It is the easy conversational tit bits that make Rishad's tales on his motorcycle, a good read this year. The Himalayan journeys will inspire those who have dreamed of making the toughest calls for their bikes, the trips to more sedate spots like Rajasthan and Karnataka will be of ...
