The Hosue of Cards and Other stories is a translation of some of Trashankar Bandopahdyaya best short stories which showcase man deepest and most basic instincts. Love, lust, envy, pride, survival instinct, the corrupting influence of power every facet of human character is explored. And it is excatly that which enables these stories to cross boundaries of time and space. The characters might be the poor people of Birbhum but the emotions are universal.
About Author :
Tarashankar Bandopadhyaya was an eminent Bengali novelist and short story writer. He began his literary career with writing poetry and plays. As an active social workers, he worked for months on end when epidemics ravaged the backward region of Birbhum. There he had the opportunitiy to observe very closely the people in his locality a majority of whom belonged to the so called lower strata of the soceity.
