Description

Pablo visits his family in Mayong when he goes there for a wedding. His stay turns out to be much more than what he expected.

Summary of the Book

Pablo had always lived a very comfortable life when he was in Guwahati. So, it was no surprise that he was finding it very difficult to adjust to his ancestral village. The purpose of his visit was his aunt’s wedding. The last time he had visited Mayong, rural Assam, was when his father’s best friend passed away. During the preparations for the wedding, Pablo is bothered by his aunts who are always arguing, his cousins who want to elope, gossip and dying elders. On top of all this, there is also the insurgency taking place in Assam and the army’s intentions to discard militancy. Pablo isn’t aware that this trip to his village is going to make him a different man.

Fresh Air

I am no book critic, but someone who just loves to read. This book was a drift of fresh air carrying along with it the aroma of rustic life in the country side of India or the state of Assam to be specific. One thing that struck me while reading the book is the hosnesty of the author. The book is bold, authentic, poignant and invigorating. Worth a read

Story of a Family

Aruni's Debut novel throws light on the riots happened in Assam long back which were not noticed . I think not many books have been written on this issue. Good thing about the book is that it doesn't talk about the violence done by two political groups on the natives of a village only, but also the inner psychological turmoil which all the members of a family face. This book figures out clearly that superstitious beliefs can ruin lives of constituent members of any society. Enjoy reading the ...
