I wanted to buy this filter from flipkart but unfortunately it was not in stock so had no choice of ordering it accept elsewhere..
Well there is no use of this filter to be very frank as these days digital cameras has inbuilt anti reflective UV rays on the camera sensor. It was a necessity when film cameras were used..
To be precise, the main use is that it protects your expensive lens's front element from frequent knock offs and without degrading the image quality.
I have a very expensive lens which is 36k and I fear taking it out as it might get scratched while I am carrying in the crowded place. People don't even say sorry if they hit your equipment so its your choice whether to protect it or leave as it is...
Here are the most important points jotted down below.
Pros:
Protects your lens front element from getting scratched.
Acts as dust and water protector.
Multi coating means 97% of light is passed which is very good IMHO.
Metal body ring
Cons:
Glass not very strong, what do you expect at this point.. Better get a HD UV filter.
My final verdict is that if by mistake you get a scratch on you lens you will get very disappointed and repairing will cost you nothing less than 1.5k even on the cheapest lenses. My advice is use UV filter with the hood to get the maximum protection.
This is the brand which you will go for given any day if you are even thinking of a filter to buy! Trust me, its superb!!
Till date I own 2 lenses and I have Hoya UVs and polarizer for each one of them. Apart from its fine quality, the filters are very sturdy as well. One of my lens once fell from a pretty height and its only of this UV filter, I saved myself from a heavy "price-shock"!! Even though the filter cracked from all parts, it saved my lens from any sort of scratch whatsoever! I would highly recommend Hoya for all who wants to protect their lenses from uncertain "fall-offs" and at the same time wants good image quality with the filters on.
Completely satisfied with the Hoya HMC UV Filter. Haze-free, more contrast in landscapes and of-course provides protection to the lens glass! Great value for money.
Flipkart service was as usual great! Got the product within 3 days.
