HP 4430s ProBook (2nd Gen Ci3/ 2GB/ 320GB/ DOS)

This laptop is solidly built and sports a minimalistic but elegant look. Brushed aluminium used on the lid and the top

plate looks much superior than cheap, gaudy plastic on some consumer laptops. However, some people might think the design

too bland for their taste.

Performance for routine tasks is more than adequate. I'm not a gamer at all so I don't how gaming performance would be.

Though this entry level business laptop aimed mainly at small businesses and individuals is definitely not in the same

league as lenovo thinkpads and dell latitudes, for the price it comes at it's absolutely terrific. I say, just go for it!

And thanks to Flipkart which delivered this beauty to me in just 2 days!!!

My purpose for this laptop was purely work and not entertainment.
Keeping that in mind, 14 inch is the perfect size and this one is convenient and feels great to use.

Core i3 is a decent performer with Windows Experience rating of 6.4 for the processor and overall 5.4 as the base index scored for 2D graphics. 3d graphics score is 5.9
Overall the performance is good and with Windows 7 it is really slick.
Have ordered for 8 GB Transcend RAM from Flipkart and it should be even better after the upgrade.

It has all the basic features required plus USB3.0 and a modem (as it is a business laptop)
The camera quality is Ok and sound is decent as well.
Battery lasts around 4 hours and is Ok as well.
Keyboard layout is good and typing is convenient.

Weight is medium and does not feel too heavy nor is it too light either.

There are no great cons for this laptop and exactly suits my requirement.

I was looking out for an i5 processor but for the work I do, I figured out I really wouldn't need a higher specced CPU and is not worth spending few extra thousands on features I may not sue most of the time.

This one does the job well and is the right choice if you know what you need it for.

This laptop is an excellent buy if you are looking for an all purpose laptop. performance is smooth and its silent. Flipkart is awesome at delivery, they will ensure that it reaches you super quick.

Few things to note -

You don't get the drivers CD with this laptop, however all the drivers are available on HP website. Finding the right ones is an effort but its just one time. I am listing a few drives that are needed, I struggled finding right ones from the list on HP site.

1. Atheros Bluetooth Driver - sp52803
2. Realtek Network Driver - sp55342
3. Atheros WIFI Adapter - sp54972

This laptop comes with 2 GB DDR3 RAM, it will perform even better if you add 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM (Assuming you have installed 64 bit OS).

There is a 3.0 USB port which is not mentioned in the specs.

Ordered this model in Jan-2012 and was delivered on-time.
pros:
1. Good price
2. HP product
3. Screen resolution good
4. Performance with Core i3 - ok. For running any VMware apps, an addl. 4 GB would certainly be necessary. Preferable if Flipkart could provide the option to upgrade RAM/Hard disk capacity while placing the order.
Cons:
1. Missing in-built 3G data card slot, replaced by a dummy rubber foot - One of the key features why I was interested in this model - since whenever one travels abroad, you could just buy a pre-paid data SIM card and use it instead of having to buy a dongle. Escalated it to Flipkart. They suggested that I register a complaint with HP and obtain a Case No. Went to HP service centre and they 'initiated a process' where someone from HP would come home to examine the laptop and then issue the Case No. - yet to hear from them 4 months later after several follow-up calls.
2. The anodized finish is very easily prone to scratches, as I found out from the folks at the HP Service centre itself! One of the reasons that models with this finish sell at lower prices
3. The form factor of the keyboard is not very good - something that you cannot make out from the online pictures posted on Flipkart. The up/down arrow keys are very small and cumbersome to use. The right-shift key is unduly large. Certainly for the space available, the keyboard layout could have been much better.

If I had bought a laptop at a dedicated Computer store, a look and feel examination would have ensured that these shortcomings do not occur and even if I had to pay a little more, I would have felt satisfied about the buy. Now I am left with the feeling of having bought 'an attractive product from a Car boot sale/seconds sale'. In fact Flipkart itself comes across as the Big bazaar/Walmart of E-Commerce retail in India. To those who value quality systems, not just the cheapest one around, the extra effort to buy it from a professional store is certainly worth it.

I bought this from flipkart about 2 weeks ago, and I am quite satisfied with the product. Hence it would be rude to not posting a review of the experience. This is a very nice laptop.

I did not find the laptop heating up even after using for a prolonged time. ( I wanted to mention this because I had an alergy with HP laptops due to their over heating problems). The battery life it shows around 5 hrs when I hover mouse over the battery icon. Never checked the actual battery back up time.

The 2GB RAM which is pre-installed is enough for general use if you are using a 64 bit operating system( I have installed Win 7 OS). While browsing you can feel the difference, it works very fast. I have added another 4GB of RAM recently which I bought from here(flipkart), though it was not very much needed, thinking I might use it heavily later and 2 GB might be insufficient. Boots up very fast. Webcam is 2.0 mp which is very good. Sound is loud, unlike other business laptops, where you need separate speakers to watch movies.

Cons: Does not come with a drivers CD, hence you need to download them from HP site. However its one-time task. Then you can save them for later, in case you need formatting or re-installing the OS.

Overall this laptop is a very good choice, and the price at which it is available in Flipkart is like hitting a jackpot. I would recommend the buyers to go for this product.
