I got this phone from the market for about 9,100 (the flipkart price then was 9,500) and I'm really pleased with my choice. My first thought was to go with the Galaxy Y but as it appeared better in specs but this phone is wayyy better in the hand. It has a snug design and fits nicely in the hand.
Coming to the display, it has a 320x480p 3.2inch display and is really very bright and vibrant. There isn't any noticeable pixilation and its a soft touch. The sensitivity is very good and it detects even the softest touches. Pinch to zoom works very well.
Because this is an Android, you would probably want to install many apps. The internal memory is 105mb and most apps can be moved to an SD card (mostly games). At present I have 29 apps installed -- 20 games and 9 utility apps including facebook, whatsapp, easy mp3 downloaded, play store, mobislenotes, quick note, zedge, sleepbot tracker log and homework... and it still shows 43 MB FREE!!! :D
The keyboard maybe a bit small for some but you can always rotate your screen for a better keypad. It also has an autocorrect which is accurate 98% of the time and is amazing!
The processor speed may be 600 mhz but its not behind any of the midrange devices like the Galaxy ace and rarely lags. The processor is a Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon, Cortex A5 with Adreno 200 for smooth gaming, and believe me, when I say smooth gaming I really do mean it! Some high level games may hang a bit but all those I have tried so far haven't hanged.
Coming from a blackberry 8520, I feel htc's wifi is much much better. The wifi on my BB was very weak and it wouldn't get detected even if I was in the same room as the router. The htc was a welcome change, the wifi never breaks and is quite strong even in far off areas. Internet browsing is very good, you can open up to 4 different tabs and navigating is easy. It also has auto align which aligns the text according to the screen so you wouldn't have to pan around to read. Thumbs up for this!
One exceptional feature I noticed was in the set up. It asked me how it wanted to connect to the internet- through Wifi or the mobile network and it said to select wifi only if I didn't have a data plan. I chose that and from then onward each and every app worked through wifi, none used my mobile network [my previous phones although claimed to use wifi only used the mobile network :( ] And because my home has wifi, I was able to save a 100 bucks a month on the data plan for whatsapp and other chatting apps. Congratulations HTC! :D
I'm a teen and my day begins and ends with music, the music app is good. Specially the SRS enhancement which adds life to your music (provided you use nice headphones)!
The camera is OK indoors but good outdoors. Its crap in the dark. If you're looking for a good camera in your phone I suggest you look somewhere else! Otherwise, 480p video recording is good too. And did I mention it has geo tagging and face detection too?
Call quality is very good. All the time I was on the phone I never experienced call breaks and there are a few very neat little features I would like to talk about- When your phone rings and you pick it up in your hands the ring quiets down! it's called quiet ring on pickup! The other is Flip For Speaker when you're on a call and you place it face down it automatically activated the speaker. And the last is pocket mode where it detects if its in a pocket or purse and automatically loudens up!! Cool right?
Battery life is good by android standards. If I don't use it frequently I charge it about once every two days. Otherwise, with frequent use you'll have to charge it daily. It shouldn't be a problem though because the charging time is approximately 30-50 minutes.
To wrap it up, for me, it is an awesome choice. I needed texting and chatting, gaming, music, browsing, wifi, a little bit of calling and it provided it all! I'm addicted to this phone!
The only downside is that I keep playing with it all the time and my mom keeps on shouting at me to put it down! LOL :D
Dear Friends, Im writing this review after 2 months of buying this phone, so im giving u exact details and personal experience , also this review will help all of those who are going to BUY it.
> MindBlowing design, when it comes to looks ul never get bored of it
> Since phone is not very big, u dnt need to use both the hands, even for texting
> Light, Sturdy and Built well, fell down many times but no probs faced till now
> Touch is fast, fluid and works jus the way u want it to
> Graphics, Ringtones, Screen Clarity are top class, no other brand comes close to this
> Huge variety of apps, since its OSv2.3 n also higly customizable, u can edit or personalize absolutely anything(except built in apps)
> Internet Browsing is superb, built in flash player, and evrything looks same like in a desktop
> Wifi doesnt reduce battery-backup which is a boon.
> Widgets are amazing, ul surely love it
> Maps, Navigation are excellent, with GPS enabled, pin point to exact location
> Watching videos is a joy, no lags, no hangs, crystal clarity, subs also available
> Chattin is like any other smartphone, decent
> Music is the very best ive seen in a phone, cos it has SRS Surround Sound, so no comments on that, ul need to experience it
> Sound clarity when making or receving calls is good not great
> Micro-usb port, so any cable will do, not mandatory that HTC cable only must work
> USB chargin, big relief for ppl like me, who r always on computers, and charges completely in 25min, pretty fast for a HTC
> No need of additional software or driver for the computer to detect this, u can keep in only chargin mode or disk drive mode or tethering
> U can make the phone a hotspot(w-router) & can browse internet in your laptop, in short it supports Tethering
> Back up, 1 day, using all phone features
> No seperate camera button
> Compulsory u need to have a Internet Pack of ur Respective Mobile Operator, without Internet u cant kno the phone s potential.
> Battery backup especially when using 3g, comes only a couple of hours and makes the the phone hot, 2g sucks big time and its same output as using 3g, atleast 3g is fast.
> Using Maps, GPS for a long time also drains the phone faster
> No Ear-Phones
> Internal memory very less considering its GingerBread v2.3
> Alarm is average
> No Screen Guard or Phone Cover in BOX
> Majority of Built-In Apps are useless
> Videos above 480p dont get played no matter what player you use
> Motion Sensor is a bit slow
> Most of the apps, dnt have exit option, u need to manually kill them in Task Manager
> Camera clarity is BAD, Video clarity is OK
> 3.2 ' screen is good for videos, internet browsing, news but definetly not for reading E-books
> Hangs or Lags, when too many applications(more than 7) are running at the same time or phone memory is < 20mb.
Things to need to buy or install after getting this Phone:
> Screen Guard, Transparent Elastic Covering(only covers back) which absorbs shock when phone falls down (Mandatory)
> 8gb memory card, 4gb will jus not be enough
> Philips SHE1360/97 Headphone-which i bought 4m flipkart, perfectly works with this phone
> Now Apps (* mark is really worth n ul use them everyday)
*Astro File Manager
*Dolphin Browser HD
Although ive written cons, its only having hope that HTC make a better cell for the same price range, but still i have no issues with the phone, its my first HTC and my first Android, im totally happy with my decision, and i hope this review was useful to the ppl buying it or planning to buy it.
well! I must say that this phone is classy and has a nice build. Its comfortable in the hand. And I'm not praising flipkart coz its become all very common as they do deliver products well and in time. So thank you for that.As per the phone, here are the pros and cons...
- Great Build and compact design
- HTC Sense is better than Touchwiz
- Some HTC apps are good..like the people app,HTC smart dialer
- Good resolution(Adreno 200 graphics does seem to help)
- 600MHz processor isn't a drawback..no lags so far,works great
- HTC Sense does crash sometimes..
- Battery drains like any other android device so you cant
really say anything(6-7 hrs)
- Camera is slightly low in quality, but no problems for
And lastly people confused over HTC Explorer and Galaxy Y, I'd say the Explorer is better.I've have used the Y earlier, lost it two months back and then went for the Explorer. Definitely better resolution and no lags as compared to the Galaxy Y.Hope people find this review useful!
I got this smartphone 1 weak ago...first of all i want to say that this is my 1st android phone and i'm really very much impressed by this handset.
1>It has quiet good battery performance.
2>its touch is just awesome.
3>Camera quality is awesome. 1st time everyone shocked knowing that it is 3.0mp
3>HTC sense is great, it's 3.5, just awesome
4>Display quality is also great.
5>It is also very much handy and it's back side is covered with rubber (in my phone) which is also great....
1>"Internal memory" => its just 150mb where system takes 45-50mb and u will get only around 100mb...now many one thought that in android 2.3, u can shift the application into SD card, but some part of those apps will be installed into internal memory...so i'm suffering very much with internal memory....you can install 20-30apps from android market...but 20-30apps is not a small quantity.
2> There is no headphone in the box, but market will provide you HTC original headphone free..i got it.
3>Sound quality is not like sumsung,sony-ericsson in loud speaker. If you download some good player from android market, it will be pretty good in headphone.
It is quiet good than samsung,lg (i don't know abput sony ericsson) not in sound system but all over the others...
So if your budget is around 10000, i'll suggest to buy this phone.
Had been using this Phone for Past one week....
Best about the Phone :
1)Now it comes with HTC ear phone and 8GB microSD card ( Addition by Flipkart )
2)Dedicated Graphices Card shows its performance while multitasking and gaming.
3)Internal memory is more than 90MB. ( Around 120MB available for user outoff 150MB )
4)Application like " Usage Monitor " helps keep track of Data used in internet for 1 day / 1 month / 3 months. ( Will help a lot when guys have limited download limit from service provider. )
4)Great Sound Quality with equalizer available in headphone mode.( Awesome to play Radio and favorite tracks through 3.5mm jack on Audio System )
1)Maybe it should have 1300mAh or more ( Heavy useage of Gaming and watching movie makes phone battery life short to 4-5 hrs otherwise with normal useage 8-10 hrs )
2)50% preloaded apps are useless. Can't uninstall also. (If able to remove 50% preloaded apps then internal memory can go upto 130-135 MB)
Must Have Apps for this Phone : Advance Task Killer & Astro File Manager.... Makes and keeps phone faster and more smarter.
