Not worth it anymore

First and foremost, This review comes from an owner of the phone since the past 1 year (Purchased - Oct 2010).

Back then, it was among the best options to be had if you had a budget of 15K (My purchase price), and, no phone came close, with only the LG Optimus One having been released sometime around the same time, so, I decided to go for the Wildfire anyhow, hoping that I would get used to the downsides (2007-spec hardware on a new OS, and a 320x240 display on a 3.2" screen) would cure over time. They didn't.

PROs:

They didn't.

PROs:
- HTC Sense, if you want it badly (But, to be honest, it's simply a novelty factor which wears off after a few months, I am very glad there are Cyanogenmod Custom ROM's for this device, the device is much better using them). Besides, it's definitely "heavy"

- 5 MegaPixel camera with Flash (Which other phones do not offer, sadly). BUT, the camera protrudes outwards, which is very strange, since in pretty much all other devices, they are recessed into the body. So if you place your device on a flat surface, the camera lens is what bears the impact first. Net result after 1 year - the camera lens has some minute scratches (Which stopped after you put the phone in a case, so the case bears the impact now).

- The size is great, it's very pocket friendly and easy to use and operate. You will be up and about in no time at all; Steve Ballmer's latest "You need to be a Computer Scientist to use Android" notwithstanding.

CONs:
- Very old hardware. Don't go by the CPU speed of 528MHz because it doesn't mean a thing. The architecture does, and the GPU in it matters, which is absent in this phone. So, if gaming forms even 5-10% of time time you spend with your phone, AVOID, because it will struggle to run even basic games at playable frame rates. Samsung's 600MHz CPU's in their low end phones like Galaxy Pop have a GPU. Result - Games are playable, stuff like Livewallpapers work.
- Low Screen resolution - It would be OK if it was a 2.8" screen, but, it isn't. So right when you switch it on, the bottom inverted U shaped dock at the bottom seems pixellated at the edges. Reading mails, web-pages or even text-based apps is a chore because of the low resolution on a relatively large screen. While, initially I though it wouldn't matter, it does, especially when you get another phone side by side.
- NOT Value for money - My biggest gripe with the Wildfire at this point of time. The majority of reviews here state that this is the best VFM phone, but, it simply isn't (As of today - October 2011). At the point of writing this review, it costs Rs 9999/ (10K). Tere are far more worthy alternatives: (I am not counting lesser known smartphone brands like Micromax / Huawei etc)
- Quality issues abound - Check Google / XDA Developer Forums. Wildfire's over a year old are getting motherboard issues, where the battery wont charge to 100%, and it loses charge it 2-3 hours. Since it's out of warranty, HTC will charge you 6-7K to repair the phone. (Change the motherboard, essentially). It's not limited to "rooted" phones alone.

Worthy alternatives that are MUCH better VFM (All lack a Camera LED flash, sadly)
- Galaxy Pop - 7800/-
- Galaxy Y - 6900/-
- Galaxy Fit - 10000/- (I would avoid this, since it has the same screen DPI as the Wildfire)
- Dell XCD35 - 8100/-
- LG Optimus One / Optimus Pro ~10000/-

If you wish to stay with HTC as a brand, then look at the Explorer (11600/-) as a serious contender. You will only lose the camera flash, and get 2MP's less on the camera, but with a relatively newer CPU and GPU (Same as most of the one's I listed above), and a HVGA 320x480 screen, along with Sense 3.5 on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, it's a much much better bet than the Wildfire.

SUMMARY
Sadly, this fire is almost extinguished. Buy this, ONLY, and ONLY IF:
- You NEED HTC Sense and don't have a Rupee over 10K
- You NEED a Camera LED Flash, and again, you don't have a Rupee over 10K
- You are not a demanding user, and will mostly be using this as a phone, and not intending to push the phone to it's limits (AKA - Not a power user at all. No gaming, no multimedia except music, not a modder / developer)

For anything else apart from the list I stated above, , do some research, and look elsewhere. Trust me, you will outgrow this phone very quickly, and you wouldn't want that to happen. It's followed by extreme disappointment, and a bad case of buyer's remorse.

I wish you guys all the best for your Android smartphone purchase, and I do hope it's a correct one for you.

Think twice plz

I have been using this mobile for about 9 months and i must say, after the initial charm of the price and the apps, the mobile was disappointing.
Few months down the line, the mobile started reacting strangely and was unable to pick up the call because the slider seemed to be stuck and every day, i used to loose up to 3-4 calls because of this issue. I went and searched the forums and found out that this is a valid issue that the company seem to ignore.

I tried installing various apps like NoLock, Easy Answer just to avoid this problem and was partially successful. After a chain mailing of 7-8 mails with the HTC center ( although their reply time is pretty fast ), they took the mobile for service(free) and it took almost 27 days to get it back with a changed touch panel and the motherboard. A week back, the mobile again started reacting strangely when the call display shows one name and while we take the call, some other number will be calling. Similar thing happened with text messages too. And also, the ring doesn't work all the time if the mobile is currently running the music player, the phone ring goes off occasionally.

Although the phone provides a lot of facilities for the current price tag, kindly be aware of the glitches before anyone purchasing it. It takes just 5 mins of googling with keywords "HTC Wildfire" ,"Problems", "Unable to" and you will be bundled with lots!.

I asked whether it is possible for an exchange of another HTC model with me agreeing to pay for the extra money of the new model after exchange, but all they gave was 2 months of extended warranty.

Choose this at your own risk!

Great service and phone!!!

First of all, let me tell sorry to the Flipkart team for the late response. I bought the HTC Wildfire on last month and it is working fine till now. I am extremely happy with the Service of Flipkart and with the Wildfire.
I bought this from Cochin, Kerala. I went to most of the famous stores in Cochin and all of them asked me more than 11K for HTC Wildfire. Then I came to know to about Flipkart. I was afraid to purchase the product from online. So I choose the option Cash on delivery. I received the phone within 4 business days. The packing was very good, around 4 covers excluding the HTC...

I am using the phone for one month and the performance is very satisfactory. This is the first time I am using an Android phone, nice experience. Battery life is good, Camera, Wi-fi, everything is fine except screen resolution. But for this prize I don’t think you will get a better phone.
Now I am looking for a Point and Shoot Camera, obviously I will purchase it from Flipkart itself.
