HUL Pureit Classic 23 L Water Purifier

I have used Pure-IT for two years. I have changed four battery kits in the process. My father has the same filter in a different city. I have used this filter on "murky" municipal water of Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corp (BMC). My review is based on single-person use. Multiply by the number of persons for your own evaluation.

Pros:

The product is quite good; very well designed and well engineered. The water is clear and good in taste. The 2-star in rating is for the product.

Cons:

- The microfiber mesh becomes useless in about 1.5 month if your water supply has some dust or silt. Each mesh costs about Rs 100. Thus, about Rs 800/year goes on the mesh alone. Earlier this mesh was for Rs 55, but the price (approximately) doubled.

- As the mesh gets clogged with dirt, the filtration rate through it decreases. It wastes a _lot_ of time in pouring water inside. I mean it really wastes a lot of time in pouring water.

- The quality control of battery kit is quite poor. My battery kits have lasted 11 months, 9 months, 7 months, and 3 months! Observe that the last kit has only lasted for 3 months, on similar usage of water. These were 1500 liter battery kits, which cost about Rs 430 now. On an avg, I am paying about Rs 900 in filtration cost.

- It is a great hassle to get a Pure-It battery replacement kit. I had to wait for six-seven days on two different occasions.

- Cost of Rs 900 Rs 800 = Rs 1700/annum is much more than what other electricity based filtration devices cost.

- Overall maintenance is tiresome. Every two month, you need to wash parts of the filter.

Pureit water purifier only filters soft water and not hard water.
Hard water can only be purified by reverse osmosis type filter.
which costs around 13K from HUL.
I had purchased this water purifier then I felt that there was some problem with the water.I called HUL helpline they had sent a person to give a demo and shockingly i was informed that my water purifier can not filter HARD WATER i.e water taken from pumps/wells.

Trust me, I have been using this purified for around 4 years (Since 2008). And I did not find any problems till now.
Points to remember:
-> Use only soft water, do not use hard water.
->This purifier does not use RO, hence hard water does not get purified.
->Clean the product once in 2 to 3 months. (This is obvious, you must maintain your purifier as it purifies your water, and the dust or the impurity remains inside the purifier, which you need to clean it by yourself.)
->Buy the battery kit once the indicator starts partial red (if it becomes complete red it wont purify, it just leaks out the water so better keep it purchased).
->Change the purifying battery kit once the indicator becomes complete red.
->Fill the water to the upper chamber such that the bottom chamber does not overflow. Once the bottom chamber is finished then fill the water again. (You will know how much to fill by doing this several time) Or else the bottom chamber will overflow if you fill the upper chamber with more than the capacity of the bottom chamber.

One battery kit comes for a long time.
If you want a purifier which purifies even the hard water then this purifier is not the right choice. You may need to check for a RO purifier for that matter.
If you need a purifier which just purifies your soft water then this is the right choice.

We bought a HUL pureit 5 months ago from a local shop. Some weeks ago the germ kit color went from white to red in a single day and it stopped working. The HUL people do not pick up on dialing the customer care number and we got no response on ordering one online.
Today we bought a kit from a local shop after much searching and had to replace it ourselves, since they refused. Now the lower container is leaking and we do not know what to do.

Just do a "pureit leak" search on google and you will see the truth about HUL and pureit.

This is one of the bad experience I would like to share & bring to your notice.

I had booked a complaint on 9-Sept-2012, regarding pureit kit classic is not working not dispensing water.

Till date the complaint is not attended.

The kit started to disperse water the next day without any issues.

Now since 2 days I'm facing severe water constraint.
The kit has stopped dispensing water & the indicator is displaying white color.

I again called the pureit customer care & lodged the complaint on 26-sept-2012 & requested for
immediate attendance.The work order was generated & the ref# is 1931232047.I understand that
the TAT is 48hrs, but what is the use if you working as per you TAT & not supporting the
customer when he is in acute problem.

Is it my problem that your TAT is 48hrs? I think I have made a mistake by purchasing the pure
it kit.I had never thought that the service would fall in such a bad state.
I'll also pass this info to my friends & family regarding your service & will ask them to
think before going to it.So that no one should face such issues in their life.

I'll also soon shift to aqua guard, which i fell is best in class service.
