Book: Human Resource Management Human Resource Management, Third Edition, has been designed to offer students, practicing managers, and human resource professionals a comprehensive, current, research-based introduction to the human resource management function. The book is designed for a survey course in human resource management at the junior, senior, or graduate level. The authors have sixty years of combined experience in teaching human resource management. Drawing from this experience, as well as from findings reported in the most recent literature and reviews from HRM instructors, authors have produced a text that they believe to be logically organized, clearly presented, fully substantive, and quite interesting as well. Several themes have guided authors discussion of the subject matter. The first theme is strategic human resource management. Chapter 2 is devoted entirely to strategic issues and their impact on the choice of HR practices. Most subsequent chapters begin with further discussion of how the organization's strategy should affect choices with respect to the activities described in that chapter. Finally, a new closing chapter, "Making the Change to Strategic HRM", addresses the difficult issues of managing change during the transition to a new and more strategic role for the human resource function.
