Outstanding

Wow. I was barely able to put this book down for a second after the first few pages got me completely hooked. Suzanne Collins narrative here has an immediacy to it that, when combined with the very dramatic life-or-death plot, is incredibly compelling. It's entertaining, and incredibly disturbing al… (View complete review)

loved the concept

I loved the book. In fact, the whole idea of the game - to live you have to win and to win, you have to kill others, even your friends. I plan to read other books of the series too.

Contrived, silly and sophomoric - a real page turner.

It's actually my fault that I didn't do enough research on the book before ordering it. Had I done that, I would've known that despite its dark, Orwellian, Battle Royale-like plot, it's a young adult novel written for a target audience comprising Twilight-loving, Teen Choice Award-voting pre-teens yuppies. The end result is a contrived, pseudo-gritty novel with the potential of a 1984 but the writing style and substance of a Twilight or Princess Diaries.

But what it lacks in soul, it makes up with its sheer adrenaline-pumping, pulse-pounding action. Collins loves leaving her readers on tenter

Extraordinary book of an extraordinary girl.

Plot (5 out of 5): the story just pulls you into a world where hope and strong will is very hard to nourish. it makes you bitter yet surprisingly you cannot wait to know what happens further.

Character development (5 out of 5): the story unfolds through the eyes of 16 years old girl who is trying to stay alive in a very hostile environment. you want to cry your eyes out to such unjust done by government so called "CAPITOL". i actually cried at some point i will not tell you when in the story but you will fall in love with the main protagonist for her strong will, bravery, kindness and caring

A typical adventure that has nothing great

Firstly, the book is about a girl who fights for her life with similar opponents in a framed arena, referred as The Hunger Games, initiated by a tyrannical dictatorship in a city called "Capitol" as an act of forbidding the citizens to stir a rebellion.

Though the story was well written and adorned with some spices of excitement, I felt that there was nothing new compared to several other stories, with a similar genre, that have been in the market for ages. May be the usage of an advanced fictional technology in the book sounds new but I have seen the similar stuff, even better, in the movie

Excellent

The hunger Games is one of the most exhilarate books i have ever read. It's bind you in the elusive dystopian world of panem which in the past is known as North America.

Full credit to suzanne collins, it's a real page turner and excellently written. There's never a dull moment in the book even though some events are predictable, but you won't have problem reading the guessing part because the fluency of her writing is inexplicable.

It's starts of with a simple hunting trip and mystery unravels itself from that point as if spider has started woven it's own web.The character's in the book are v

Thrilling, exciting and kinda well thought out

When i picked out this book from a library i thought to myself,
'Great! ANOTHER book about an angsty teenage girl who brings down an eevil government set in a ridiculously dystopian world. Meh.'

But i was wrong...on some points.

The plot does have a very few holes in it and certain things that aren't too important to the story may not have been explained, but once you start reading the first book, it's like taking a headlong plunge into the entire series.

What it may lack in creativity or a lack of explanations, it makes up in suspense, cold hard thinking, practicality and a strong protag

Unputdownable tale of woe and hope

The book opens on a bleak note, and it sets down the tone for the rest of the pages. And when you feel that there's absolutely no hope to clutch to, something miraculous happens.
The plot is designed to keep the readers hooked, and though not always unpredictable, it suffices to keep us enthralled.
The characterization is to the point, and although I find parallels between the characters of Peeta Mellark and Edward Cullen and Jacob Black and Gale Hawthorne, the similarity stops there. Well-etched and played out, it's easy to identify with them and see them humans stuck between the devil and t

Awesome book. Not in the same 'young adult' genre as Twilight.

When a friend recommended it, I checked out the reviews and was scared off by the words "young adult" as those two words brought images of Twilight to my mind. Yuck!
Then I stumbled across the trailer for the movie and that gave me the courage to try it out.
Started last evening. Spent most of the night. Finished it today.
Riveting!
A story about a staged games where people fight to the death in a super large arena that is manipulated by 'game-makers'. How can this not be riveting?

Now for book two.

a must read book for suspense lovers !!!

Like i mentioned"THE HUNGER GAMES" is a novel filled with tones of suspense, action , emotions which give the story a new twist in every single page !! I had a great experience reading it ....... and i could not wait until i got the second book "THE CATCHING FIRE" and eventually "MOCKING JAY". although it's possible you might get bored at certain places, but the curiosity of what will happen next will glue you to the book !!! simply it's just an amazing trilogy !!

A good Read

Even though the book has a slow build-up, the suspense created initially about the different characters is beautifully maintained throughout leaving the readers gasping for breath with every turn of the page. The description allows the user to have a good video streaming in his/her head in sync with the content. Once plunged into the world of Hunger-Games, it is difficult to get yourself out without finishing the book.

fansinating read

there was a lot of excitement related to hunger games and I decided to buy this book. It was a great read full of twists , tension and happiness. It's a diffrent story line and something to read after the harry potters and eragons are over. But only one flaw was the cheesy romance placed at the ending of the book made it merely boring and weird. except for that a brilliant reAD!
