If God Was A Banker (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.195

If God Was A Banker is a story about two IIM passouts on their way to success. It details the twists and turns in their journey to climb the ladder of success and achieve the best.

Summary Of The Book

In If God Was A Banker, the story revolves around two management graduates in the rat race for success. Sundeep is ambitious and selfish, which leads him to achieve his goals through unscrupulous means. Swami is the exact opposite as he sticks to his morals and ethics to ensure success in his career. Swami's ideal and ethics keeps him behind Sundeep in terms of performance at the New York International Bank where they both work. Sundeep's rapid rise up the corporate ladder and his popularity with colleagues disguises his real motives and cunning mind.

The story also has a main character, who is a friend and counsellor to both of them and he has his own philosophy which is based on his experience and is genuine. He always taught what he deemed right. Inspite of all the facts, the temptation of untold riches was too strong for Sundeep and he continued on his quest for more ill-gotten financial gain.

All through the novel, the backdrop is the corporate bank environment, which is so polluted that the characters are portrayed as people who are ready to deviate from the righteous path at the drop of a hat. Women throw themselves at their bosses to advance their position. If God Was A Banker was published in 2007 and it won the Indiaplaza Golden Quill Book Award. The book has sold more than 260,000 books and has been a national bestseller.

God must be Rollin on the Floor

Conclusion from the Book
#In corporate world any girl could succeed only after sleepin with her boss or after marryin them

#South Indians are humble and gracious & some how Super Awesome Buisness Magnate else how could Swami turn around the future of BPCO & NYB

# North Indians are somehow intelligent and great charmer but more importantly they are big Loser in terms of character

#Some Loser based in Kolkatta could manage entire posting , promotion and appraisals of a MNC bank based in New York #ReallyKolkatta

Boy! was it a disappointment

Its all in the name... if god was a banker- the only thing going for the book is its exceptional title, catchy and intriguing. But from the first page itself it grows to be a disappointment. The story is mediocre and the effort to portray the good guy AS a good guy is obvious.
I know it has won some awards, but that couldn't have been on originality because nothing in the book is original. Going with a magnifying glass if I HAD to find something good, I would have to say that the glimpse, a tiny little peep in the banking system... that is the only authentic and positive. But other wise it...

If God was a Banker

It is a very well written book connecting some parts of the corporate world. The plot of the story is very good. The story talks about two equal calibre man and how the difference in attitiude and work style leads them to different destination. I would say its a book which is in between imaginary and real world. I would say its a must read for the readers who loves the mix veg :)

A Below Average Book

I picked this book after seeing the soaring sales but I must admit it was a mistake. The content and storytelling of the author is way below average. The story is very predictable, full of cliches, typified personalities and a heavy bias against North Indians.

I think the success of Chetan Bhagat has produced many wannabe b-school grad turn authors, who want to reap in the profits by writing crap masala books for BPO readers. I am pretty sure that this book will soon end up as a masala bollywood movie.

Not recommended to any serious reader.

Good book overall

I think the book brings out certain, rather the common characteristics that corporate folks exhibit in the professional and personal life. It talks about the intention behind every move that one makes to get ahead of the corporate race. I think on another hand to idealistic in depicting the character of corporate guys how are God like, all merciful and all forgiving. I think this part was a bit of unbelievable, rather to a large extent unbelievable. Who know there could exist people who are all forgiving and merciful in corporate world too. One of the things that I personally took out of the book was, how one has to be vigilant in corporate environment as most often one is subjected to tactics that are way incomprehensible and forceful.
Good book over all.

Good book

It aptly proves that god lies in humans. Lucidly written. Non-professionals can also enjoy the book. It moves as native skills of the author just like movie reel over your eyes. I read all the books written by this author. Kudos to him. His books are just like his auto biographs. (View complete review)

Must read thriller

There are quite a few racy thrillers by Indian authors these days a far cry from the past days, where indian authors were more hell bent on satisfying the literary crowd. Ravi is one of these guys who can present a story so presentable that after a point in time (after reading 3 of his books), on... (View complete review)
