  • Description

When a prince kidnaps the beautiful wife of a king, the insult leads all of Greece to rally towards Troy in a legendary war to get her back. The Iliad is one the only two surviving classics written by Homer.

    Summary of the Book

In this classic translation, Robert Fagles brings alive the magical story of how the Greeks besieged Troy to win back Helen, the wife of Menelaus, the brother of Agamemnon This verse translation brings alive the magic and the rhythm of Homer’s original work, capturing the grandeur and finesse of Homer’s own style and language. Telling the stories of Helen, Achilles, Hector, Paris and other heroes of legend, this tale has influenced a great part of modern world literature and art.

    About Homer

Homer was a Greek poet, popularly considered to be the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey. Herodotus places his timeline around 850 BC, and other sources attribute his existence to the 7th or 8th Century BC.

Homer’s works are considered to be the most influential classics of all time. Part of a much larger work, now long lost to civilization, these two epic poems have changed the way literature has evolved throughout the ages.

This classic continues in the Odyssey.

    don't watch "Troy" . . .

i think filmmakers should stop spoiling the great works of great men. don't satisfy yourself by watching merely the film 'Troy' that is based on this book. it doesn't contain even 5 % of the book! read the book of Homer . . .and watch the film. then you will learn the difference; and greatness of the book!!

    About the book

I don't have talk about Homer or Iliad as you all pretty much know everything. I will just talk about the quality of the book. Despite the fact that it is an inexpensive edition, the paper quality is pretty good and there is an extensive introduction about the content in general. I think the book will be pretty good. The cover is a bit thin and I would recommend you to bind it or cover it using lamination sheet to avoid any damages. The packing was a bit flimsy. When I received the book, it w...

    First tragedy book ever

This is the first work of western literature and wow! Homer was a genius, he placed the foundation of theater decades before it actually came into being. 'The Iliad' by Penguin is a revised translation of this 15,000 lines long epic poem. It is so named because it tells the story of Greeks' siege of city of "Ilium", the Troy.
You will learn so much about Greek Gods and the epic itself through this book. So before you watch the Brad Pitt starrer "Troy" it is advisable to read it.
    "Troy" was ...

    A Great Epic

The Iliad is one of the greatest Greek epics still around. It's presented much differently in general folklore though. The book has glorious details about which nipple did whose bronze arrow pass through and who is whose son/bastard child. It's not exactly fun to read this unless you are a Greek mythology geek.
This paperback by Projapati Books has a lot of typos which are excusable since the book comes at such a great price in such a good package. Flipkart's service with this product was gr...
