Playwright, novelist, poet and epigrammatist, Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin in 1854. A self-proclaimed socialist and brilliant classicist, he published his only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray in 1891, followed by witty plays such as A Woman of No Importance (1893). Wilde died in 1905.
