He started his active political career as a member of the Yough Congress with the quit India Movement of 1942 spearcheaded by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and other great leaders of the time.
Deeply influened by Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Netaji Subhas Bose and other stalwards of the freedom movement lie Acharya Narendra Deve, Achyut Patwardhan, Jayaprakash Naryaan, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, Ashok Mehta, Aruna Asaf Ali, S M Joshi among others, Sathe threw in his lot with the newly formed socialist party after independence.
