India Inside: The Emerging Innovation Challenge To The West discusses contemporary Indian innovations provided to the many corporations and entities all over the world.

    Summary Of The Book

In this authoritative book on Indian innovation, business experts Nirmalya Kumar and Phanish Puranam discuss India’s ability to be the next superpower. The authors give the readers insight into India's growing companies and the opportunities and challenges that they face. The book highlights the “invisible” innovation that India provides at the global level.

The book is divided into 8 chapters and discusses the different kinds of innovations like Globally Segmented Innovation, Process Innovation, Visible Innovation, Outsourcing Innovation and Management Innovation. It also includes discussions on India' s Innovation Challenges and The Future of Indian Innovation.

According to Kumar and Puranam, substantial innovation is happening in India, but it is invisible to others around the globe. The innovation takes many forms like the R&D services and B2B offerings. The book points out how India’s innovation hub affects the developed world. The book is inclusive, well researched and contains extensive interviews with Indian-based executives from companies like GE, Intel, Infosys, and Wipro.

The book also points out how there is a talent shift to Asia from the West and how this has contributed to growth and innovation in Asia. The Indian concept of Jugaad, that is the ability to do more with less resources is gaining prominence. The book also focuses on the challenges faced by Indian companies, like lack of capital, slow bureaucracy, and lack of infrastructure. In this book, the authors clearly map out India’s innovation and growth story.

How can we turn services into products? Where are the Indian iPods, Viagras and Googles? What are the pillars of Frugal Engineering? How can we overcome institutional constraints? Do the developed countries really have an advantage over the developing countries?
This book has remained a bestseller since its publication in the year 2011.
