First published in 1998, this festschrift for Dr. Manmohan Singh brought together pioneering research on the subject of economic reforms at a time when the transition to liberalization and globalization was still a subject of controversy in Indian political and business circles. Fifteen years on, with India’s transformation into one of the fastest growing economies in the world, this update from authors like Amartya Sen, Meghnad Desai, Montek S. Ahluwalia, and C. Rangarajan is very timely. Covering a wide range of issues such as inclusive growth, decentralization, fiscal stability, infrastructure development, and labour market reforms, this book is must read for all those interested in the Indian growth experience.

I bought the book with the hope that it will be an updated version of the 1998 edition. That seems to be how it has been pitched. But to my utter surprise found that only 4-5 essays have two to three pages appended at the back...So, in effect it just contains around 20 new pages...If you own the older version, just get those 20 pages from anywhere and be happy!!
This was not expected of such a highly rated publication house!!
