Summary of the Book

Written to address the multi-faceted views and opinions on Indian constitutional theory, this book brings to light some of the controversies which surrounded the earliest situations involving the constitution. Speaking from his large experience as the Lok Sabha Secretary-General, Dr. Kashyap explains how the Constitution of India has survived all the pressures and strains of regular assaults against it. The constant strain has emboldened the constitution, he says, and it proves that it is a staunch example of democracy at work. The constitution hasn't been the mere effort of one man but a continually changing result of over 60 years of dedicated work by hundreds of people.

About Subhash C. Kashyap

Subhash C. Kashyap is an Indian political scientist, constitutional expert and distinguished scholar. He was a former Secretary-General of the 7th through 9th Lok Sabhas and the Lok Sabha Secretariat from 1980 to 1990.

Also the head of the International Centre for Parliamentary Documentation, IPU at Geneva till 1983, Dr. Kashyap published several articles and books, some of which are: Jawaharlal Nehru and the Constitution, Politics of Power, Tryst with Freedom, Parliament of India: Myths and Realities and History of the Freedom Movement.
