
This book, divided into two parts, is an attempt at understanding the inter-play ofsocio-cultural ideas in the development of India life through the ages of itsexistence. The first part explains how, after 56 years of independence, Indian society is adapting itself to the changed environment. The second partdescribes the Indian cultural heritage which is a colourful story of varied experiences in all fields ofhuman activity through the ages. Indian culture is pre-dominantly one of self-restraintand is based on the ancient Vedic teachings of spiritualism. Taking these andrelated aspects into account, what one gets is a comprehensive yet compacttreatise on social and cultural life of India.
