Intellectual Property: Global Dimensions

The evolution of the World Trade Organisation after immense discussion over 8 years has generated great interest the world over. The first round proved to be marked different from the earlier rounds. The present books deals with "Intellectual Property" which was a critical area in the negotiations. As we all know before the WTO, this important area was dealth with by the Paris Agreement (1863), Berne Convention (1886), Madrid Agreement (1891), Universal Copyright Convention (1952), Rome Convention (1961), Geneva Convention (1961) & IPIC Treaty (1989). Even though these agreements & conventions had excellent ideas, they lacked the capabilities for implementation.
About Author :
Dr. Jayanta Bagchi is a distinguished member of Indian Administrative Service. After retirement in 1997, the author has been writing regularly on various facets of the World Trade Organisation and economic issues like anti-dumping, steel, textiles, agriculture and services etc. This book is going to be the tenth book of Dr.Bagchi. During his long career, the author has served over 20 years in various ministeries commerce, steel & textiles etc. He has been the Chairman, State Trading Corporation & the Designated Authority on Anti-Demping in the Ministry of Commerce. In the state governments of Assam & Meghalaya, Dr. Bagchi has also held important positions.
