The Classic Text Annotated to Update Graham's Timeless Wisdom for Today's Market Conditions

The greatest investment advisor of the twentieth century, Benjamin Graham taught and inspired people worldwide. Graham's philosophy of "value investing" -- which shields investors from substantial error and teaches them to develop long-term strategies -- has made "The Intelligent Investor" the stock market bible ever since its original publication in 1949.

Over the years, market developments have proven the wisdom of Graham's strategies. While preserving the integrity of Graham's original text, this revised edition includes updated commentary by noted financial journalist Jason Zweig, whose perspective incorporates the realities of today's market, draws parallels between Graham's examples and today's financial headlines, and gives readers a more thorough understanding of how to apply Graham's principles.

Vital and indispensable, this HarperBusiness Essentials edition of "The Intelligent Investor" is the most important book you will ever read on how to reach your financial goals.

Book Reviews of The Intelligent Investor: A Book Of Practical Counsel
*Language Too Complicated
Review by Priyanka

What I found was that this book is a classic and thus the language is very complicated and difficult for someone just starting out. It is a book for someone who already has read other books before this and knows the basics.

My first book on investing and finance was Invest The Happionaire Way by Yogesh Chabria/CNBC. I picked this book after it was suggested in Happionaire Way.

This was too complicated and I left it in half way.
*Intelligent books = intelligent investors
Review by Rohit Gupta
I first heard of this book from Buffett's biography by Roger Lowenstein. This book will take beginners from the basics of finance and investing to the complexities of the stock markets. Its written in a classical 'folksy' style and makes for an intellectual reading. It isnt something which you can finish in one sitting, and usually people tend to take their time with this book since its more of an education reading this book rather than just a 'read'.

For anyone interested in knowing about the basics of what investments actually represent, they should give this book a read. Serios beginner investors will feel proud having read the 'best book on investing ever written'. Advanced investors will probably find it a little repetitive but they will be advised to go through it quickly and selectively.

Its an investment classic. Having it alone is worth it. Reading it and getting an education out of it is an enviable bonus...
*Happionaire Series Better For Indians
Review by Ramesh
This book was suggested to me in the Happionaire series book - Invest The Happionaire Way. However for Indians wanting to learning about investing, I feel the happionaire series is much better. Happionaire's Cash The Crash helped my learn and analyze balance sheets and also gave examples of real companies that went up over 100% in terms of returns.

Yogesh Chabria is much better than Benjamin Graham for us Indians according to me.
*A classic everywhere, forever
Review by Sandeep Guria
This book will be helpfull depending on what kind of returns you expect from the market.
You're a day trader , or may be short term investor(1month to 1 year), then this is not for you, better buy something on technical analysis'though I don't reccomend it'.

If you want to seriously pursue investing, For a beginner this is the Bible literally! it'lll let you sleep well at night(believe me).The first few chapter's are indeed difficult, considering my low financial acumen.but after first few hurdles it's a breeze. You'll find investing gems here.

About some reviews before me

I have read the Happionaire book. I would put it in the same league as 'Rich dad poor dad'. I can't stress enough those books are for 'motivation' purpose only.
This is the book that would show the how to!
If you want to seriously pursue investing. Buy it!!!!!
if not better invest in mutual funds.

*Classic!
Review by R. Damani
This is a classic book and almost every big investor has read it. However, I would also like to mention that not everything in it should be taken as face value. Somethings today have changed.

I would also like to add that as someone earlier mentioned in a review - Yogesh Chabria/Happionaire himself has suggested this book as a read. It is certainly a must read. But I wouldn't compare Happionaire books with Rich Dad Poor Dad. The strategy is very different. Happionaire's Cash The Crash explains balance sheets and investing in companies very well.

I would say reading all these books is a must do for any investor and then they should take their own decissions.

What is Value investing? (Guru Focus - November 16, 2009)
By Jacob Wolinsky. Many people throw around the term value investing without an exact definition of what really it means. Since value investing has become so popular some funds will now call themselves value funds and be nothing of the sort. Some value funds own high p/e technology stocks that Benjamin Graham would have never considered anything remotely close to value stocks. Of course the fund ...
