The Classic Text Annotated to Update Graham's Timeless Wisdom for Today's Market Conditions

The greatest investment advisor of the twentieth century, Benjamin Graham taught and inspired people worldwide. Graham's philosophy of "value investing" -- which shields investors from substantial error and teaches them to develop long-term strategies -- has made The Intelligent Investor the stock market bible ever since its original publication in 1949.

Over the years, market developments have proven the wisdom of Graham's strategies. While preserving the integrity of Graham's original text, this revised edition includes updated commentary by noted financial journalist Jason Zweig, whose perspective incorporates the realities of today's market, draws parallels between Graham's examples and today's financial headlines, and gives readers a more thorough understanding of how to apply Graham's principles.

Vital and indispensable, this HarperBusiness Essentials edition of The Intelligent Investor is the most important book you will ever read on how to reach your financial goals.

King of Quantitative Analysis

A must read for anyone interested in investing. The initial chapters (Chap 1-4) are relatively difficult. The concepts and ideas discussed are difficult to comprehend, especially if you aren't aware of US markets and Dow Jones. However, once you get used to the language and style of author, you'll start appreciating this wonderful work. Chap 8 is the one that you'll remember for life. The ideas of this book when combined with those of Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits by Phil Fisher (King of Qualitative Analysis!) will help you to fully understand stocks. For Indian perspectives, one can follow the works of Mehrab Irani and Parag Parikh. One should also explore Chandrakant Sampat's investing philosophy.

Finally, one should explore the articles in footnotes and the research papers cited throughout the book. These will provide you wonderful insights on how Graham's principles are relevant even in today's market. More than intelligence, this book requires hard word and patience. Jason Zweig's commentary is pretty useful, though, at times, you'll find it a bit stretched.

As in Stock Markets, you must have patience to benefit from this 640 page epic!

Words of wisom on basic investment philosophy

I am a newbie to the world of investing and read about this book on a variety of sites and magazines. Anyone who has looked up Warren Buffett and his investing philosophies would have heard about his legendary teacher - Benjamin Graham. Mr Graham wrote one of the first classics on fundamental analysis - Security Analysis (1934). The revised version of this work is still followed in some business schools today and is frequently recommended by the best value investors worldwide. The Intelligent Investor is a book that focuses more on investing "philosophy" rather than the nitty grit... ()

The Intelligent Investor is a book that focuses more on investing "philosophy" rather than the nitty gritties of company financials, and it draws heavily on Mr Graham's wealth of investing experience that includes the harrowing Great Depression era. With the inclusion of commentary by Jason Sweig that applies Mr Graham's timeless wisdom to more recent events such as the dotcom bubble, this book remains highly relevant for anyone interested in long-term investing. Note that since this book is written for the serious investor in mind, this is not exactly a light read like Peter Lynch's "One up on Wall Street". In addition, anyone who is looking for strategies on successful short-term trading in the stock markets will find nothing of use here. Since it is basically a "strategy and philosophy" book, it is not limited to discussions on stock investments and covers other securities like corporate and treasury bonds as well. A familiarity with the US market's securities and some knowledge about stock markets and its instruments would be very helpful to make sense of every line. I would not recommend it to absolute newcomers to investing who are not comfortable with basic concepts such as bond yields. The book has 500+ pages of gyaan, so one needs to be really interested in actively building long term wealth via the stock and bond markets to venture here. But if one is willing to put in the effort to become an active intelligent investor, and not a speculator dependent on others' expert advice, this is a must-buy. As Warren Buffet himself says, it is possibly the best book on investing ever written.

Great for Beginners

This is a fantastic book for people who are just entering the world of investing, and by investing I mean investing and not trading. There are nuggets of wisdom even for experienced investors but not as good as Security Analysis. This book is more literature than numbers.

Follow the book for appropriate price

I would recommend to follow the book or item you wish to purchase on Flipkart as at times it would be available for less price even after getting 50% discount.

Good for anyone who interested in stock market

The book is a bit of old school, but gives you a fundamental approach to investment and stock selection.

The only disadvantage is that the book is written keeping the US stock market in mind and hence gets a bit irritating at times. But overall I think its a must read for anyone who wants to inv...
