About Douglas E. Comer

Douglas Earl Comer is an author and professor.

The Professor has written best-selling textbook on computer operating systems, computer networks, computer architecture, and the Internet.

Some of them are Computer Networks and Internets, and Operating System Design: The Xinu Approach. These books are used in fifteen of the top sixteen Computer Science Departments in America, and have been translated to more than a dozen languages.

He graduated in 1971, with a BS in Mathematics and Physics from Houghton College. He then did his Ph.D in Computer Science from the Pennsylvania State University. He worked in Cisco Systems as Vice President of Research for computer networking. He is currently a  Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. Comer is a Fellow of the ACM, Association of Computing Machinery.
