Book Summary of Into Thin Air

This is the true story of a 24-hour period on Everest, when members of three separate expeditions were caught in a storm and faced a battle against hurricane-force winds, exposure, and the effects of altitude, which ended the worst single-season death toll in the peak's history.

Greavely loved it...

It is one of my longest reads.. Being a outdoor person, I enjoy reading this kind of stuff... But Jon, the author has his own way of writing..

If a book is intended to write about a tragedy that took place on a expedition, Jon's workw will consist of everything, from the description of the least important character of the tale to the history of the first summiteer to the personal investigation, about the tragedy, from the survivors..

The very bad thing about this writing is that, Jon mentioned lots of names in the manuscrip and he never maintains a standard for the person.. For example, There is a American named Sandy Pittman.. Jon sometimes refers to her as Sandy and other times as pittman and so other times American... This really confused me till the core.. This manuscript consists of 100s of names and Jon can call them in 3 types, that makes it 3 x 100s of names...

It is a great account of Everest expedition of 1996.. It hangs to a very points which says... Reaching is top isnt the vistory, it is just the beginning of the most problamatic descent...

Greavely loved it..

An intense read!

I started reading this book today morning at around 10:00am. At the time of writing this review I have just closed the book. I simply couldn't put it down!

Jon Krakauer gives a no-frills honest personal account of the tragedy witnessed in 27 hours between the 9-11 May of 1996 which he refers to as the worst single season tragedy on Everest. I simply can't wait to read 'The Climb' which is the account of Anatoli Boukreev, a guide whose judgement and actions have been questioned by Krakauer in this book.

Irrespective of what might be the author's bias in describing the events (to give him credit he does reiterate again and again that it his simply his own account of the event as he saw it happen) it does give a particularly impressive insight into the business of the high altitude tourism industry and the personalities of people involved in it.

Emotional Read

A very gripping honest personal narration of the 96 everest tragedy, but a biased account of the events. people who read this book should also read 'The Climb' by Anatoli Boukreev, which gives a more neutral narration. Into The Thin Air is one of the best adventure narration that i have read, once you pick up the book you will not put it down before finishing it. A good read.

Gripping

Mesmerizing , gripping what more should I say. Books like this keeps generation (gamer , serial dater etc) like us coming back to reading.
This novel touches you totally differently then watching TV documentary about Everest, one can actually feel
the toil and torment those ppl have undertook and gone through.
